5.0 out of 5 stars Living French - the foundation to learn to speak french, 6 Aug 2001
By A Customer
The easiest way to learn another language is to go to a country where that language is spoken. Even then one still needs some kind of knowledge of that language to get going. Living French gives one that base knowledge in a very clear and easy to understand kind of way. It teaches one with simple constructions ways to use verbs without having to know all the conjugations. I have recommended to everybody who has asked me for advice on learning to speak French..... and still do

5.0 out of 5 stars French for grown up students, 27 Mar 2008
I have used Living French (and Living German) for adult students throughout my teaching career. Unlike GCSE courses it doesn't assume you're 16. It's an excellent course, giving a well-organised, in-depth background to the French language. Each chapter has clear grammar explanations, vocabulary lists and a reading passage, backed up with old-fashioned exercises to practise what has been learnt. Each chapter can be covered in a one hour lesson, with the written exercises given as homework and reviewed next time. The only drawback is that it is very difficult to get hold of the accompanying audio [cassettes]. Additional conversation practice is required.

4.0 out of 5 stars review, 3 Mar 2009

I decided to buy this book after borrowing an old copy from a friend. It is mainly to help my daughter with her school work and although we have only just started it is already proving very useful. Even better she is enjoying reading the lessons.
