Product Description

About the Author

Duke Miller has circumnavigated the globe six times looking for himself. He has worked for many agencies in more than 25 countries. Haunted by the things he has seen, he knows that by the time you finish reading this paragraph, hundreds of people around the world will needlessly die. He lives with regrets (Texas, politics, men with guns, religion, and problems with only one solution) and believes that powerful men define the truth and too many of us blindly accept what they say. Living and Dying with Dogs is fiction based upon his unique and tragic understanding of refugees, war, sex, the past, and our bloody world.

This is a compelling read by a compelling writer. Duke Miller has traversed the globe several

times, living and working in sad and angry places. When he finally returned home, alive and living, he

sat down at his computer and turned his experiences into a novel. And a classic one it is too. He has

seen the most intense love, heartbreak and happiness among the ruins and I feel privileged to have

read his words.

Duke Miller wrote his own epigraph for this novel. “If extreme events form one’s writing, then I think I have enough information.” And when he finished writing these words he started on Living and Dying with Dogs. It is more like a life force than a novel. For I can tell you now that what I read changed me. And I can safely say that after you have read this book you will not be the same person as you are now.

"I awoke in pain at the bottom of a cliff. I couldn't breathe, hear, or talk. My bones were silent. The dogs were voiceless, throwing their heads back with open jaws and mutely howling about unexpected change." So begins a novel that I am still reeling from. I was appalled, thrilled and tearful. And thankful. Thankful that I clicked on all the right places on Amazon to buy this book.

This is witness literature

Living and Dying with Dogs is what Nadine Gordimer calls Witness Literature. It is a remarkable novel that tells of people caught up in wars not of their own making. As I absorbed the powerful words contained in this book I became more and more aware that these unfortunate people in tragic foreign lands today could be you and me tomorrow.
