this is made of real wood, which is excellent to find which is healthier than say, M.D.F, and better for
the enviornment generally too. (though it doesn't say FSC approved unfortunately, it is pine rather than a hardwood for example)
i like that is has a little draw in just under the desk, so it is out of the way of legs etc). handy for pens etc,
to keep them within easy reach in a place where they are not going to roll off the desk.
i like that there is a flat bit, as well as an adjustable height bit of three heights, above 25%.45% and 75% at a rough rough estimate.
the higher is good for drawing, the lower is good for the laptop.
the adjustable desk is nice and secure at the various heights, kept in place by a wooden leg on different positioned slate, using science to keep it secure, as weight is put on it, the wooden leg part pushes a hold into the wooden slots more- it looks like it can take a fair bit of weight too due to this simple excellent design.
and it the adjustable bit also goes completely flat too, secured by a magnetic attachment, holding firmly, yet pretty easy to open and raise the shelf too.
and there is a nice shelf that is not adjustable, so there is a flat part of the table as well as the adjustable bit, which is useful for things that i would like to be on the table, but not height adjusted....
it looks good too - some over bed type tables i found well, didn't look as nice as this, put it that way,
i didn't want a beacon saying that i've not been well and have been bedbound a lot,
i like this as it is an item that people who are bed bound can use, yes, but also one that healthy people can and do use too, a nice functional item that can be used for a variety of things, for laptop,
and can use it sitting up next to it like a table, or laying down with the table over it..
and it can be neatly folded and put away under the bed or wherever, unlike an over bed table for example).
there is more flexibilty to where it can be used than an overbed table too, as it is so portable. it is fairly light too.
it can be used on a bed, but also in many other places as a portable table......
the height of desk between the bed and the base of the desk are about 5 1/2 inches or so, and the width of it, is a nice size to sit up at,
however, (this is the reason only 4 stars), like similar portable desks, to fit legs under just under 6 inchest is not all that much, even for people that are fairly small like i am (though the width is a good width). it is ok for me, which is why i'm giving it 4 stars ; ) i guess if it was much higher then the table would seem a bit high for bed use, and it is a bit of a compromise between the two. the table can also be propped up using my legs too if i wish to sit with my knees up, (i.e. or if someone who is bigger), but it is more comfortable to have it standing itself on the bed. i guess it could also be made taller by a couple of boxes or books if put with care, though like i said, it is a bit of a compromise as then the table would be higher up for the hands to use the laptop etc, and it is a nice height for that, my arms don't have to be lifted very high up in the air to type as a higher table of this structure would (though i still could do with a couple of cushions under my elbows i think when using it over me, but thats just the fibromyalgia affects).
for people carpentry experienced, it would be fairly easy to unscrew the legs and replace the legs with different ones if legs or body depth (depending how it is positioned) were over 5-6 inches or so.
the only other tempting ones look like the ones that have adjustable legs too, with hinges, but went for this one, as it has more features that i like, it's wooden, and a fraction of the price. plus some of those adjustable legs didn't have a locking feature, so reviewers said that it fell down with a bit of weight on. the ones that have locks in the legs that i looked at were much more expensive. perhaps if i was bigger depth than 5 inches or so, and/or had more money i would try one of them,
but this is nice and sturdy, and is doing me ok as we speak.
am glad that i found what i was looking for,
something to use in bed for me if bed bound, or just fancy doing work etc from the comfort of my bed,
and also when my (nice and healthy!) son decides to use the laptop in bed for comfort and/or to be close to me when i've been bed bound, he can sit straight when using this, improving his poster
the adjustable shelf is also good for the fingers when typing too compared to a flat desk.
i expect it will also be used by us for breakfast and other meals in bed, doing activity books, drawing etc in bed, and maybe when eating in the garden too picnic style on a rug, with this table,
if i had a car, i might've taken it camping with us for the same reason.
it also makes a nice portable easel, and to place books to read on too it think.
the BHTA on the box that you might see in the picture, stands for British Healthcare Trades Association by the way.
It says height is H - 21.5 cm x W - 54 cm x D 32 cm,
and suggests uses to be 'home craft office bed hospital'
made in china it also says so the long distance is not so environmentally friendly, but lots of things in the past ? years in the UK have been made in china, and didn't find an alternative that fitted what i needed.
i like too that the price is lower than many of the other similar style tables, and it is still of really good quality, and well made.
