This is the first time I have left a review on any product but I was given this product as a Christmas having been a fan of Echo for two years which sadly broke (on a different note - do not buy the case as the constant friction will detach the sleeve from the pen and eventually crack).
OK, back to the pen - I configured this in minutes, linked to Evernote and attached to WiFi. I wrote my first note with audio and it synced with Evernote immediately. To say I was pleased was an understatement. This was brilliant, however, I soon realised that you cannot save a pencast which is a must have feature for me as I attend many meetings and store the content in secure files.

I agree with a previous comment which was that this feels like a retrograde step. Livesrcibe need a really good web portal to sort and store notes or at the very least download a webcast in PDF or the newer format. In any event I could not store notes this way because they are not secure. If LS had such a secure portal I would pay for storage!

As this pen is now used I will keep it in the hope that LS sort these issues out but at the moment I am using my old echo with black tape around it!
It seems to me that LS are pinning their hopes on the LS3 - please don't do it, you cannot record audio with notes unless you have an iOS device. I attend meetings all the time where my iPhone has lost battery or I simply do not have it. LS need to improve the ECHO with WiFi and develop a great web interface with a local app and the will crack it.

Oh and if you are thinking of buying one please buy me mine second hand and used once ;0)
    Hope you find this useful.

I've just finished a 3-day attempt to trial this product.
Despite reading many negative reviews here, I so wanted it to work that I thought I'd give it a go myself.

I could forgive most of the short-comings described by previous reviewers, many of which are actually a result of having to shift to Evernote to make use of this device. I'm a big Evernote fan and so was hoping this would add to my workflow.

Unfortunately, there are three big problems that made this smartpen a hindrance rather than a help to me, specifically:

    1) It is not possible to edit the note title in the Evernote desktop application (although it IS possible on the Evernote smartphone app and the Evernote web portal). Your notes are therefore cryptically titled "Smart Journal Page 3" rather than "Meeting with Client X", making it really hard to file and track etc.

    2) Each page of your smart notebook ends up in Evernote as a separate note and appears in seemingly random order. Merging notes is possible in Evernote, but good luck in getting the pages in the right order without it taking forever! Only useful if your meeting notes are unlikely to take more than one page.

    3) This was the deal-breaker for me. Under totally artificial lighting conditions the performance of the pen dropped to the point where my notes became almost unreadable. With daylight around they were fine and I initially got quite excited. After taking notes at several evening meetings and lectures without any daylight but with perfectly good artificial lights it was possible to see that the performance drop is consistently bad.

I would not recommend this product and it is certainly not my paperless nirvana.

Having used an Echo pen for over a year and struggling to use Livescribe desktop, I purchased the Livescrive Wifi Pen (Known as Livescrive SKY pen outside of the UK) as the prospect of wireless upload and using Evernote as the primary application to manage notes sounded like an improvement.

So far I have only registered the pen but it already appears that there is no application (like L.S desktop) to archive notes and manage the memory. Many users have raised concerns on the livescribe support website as early as December 2012, but L.S appear to have stopped responding to requests for updates or support. I have sent a request for clarification but will be requesting a full refund as currently this item is not fit for purpose.

I think it would be easier (and considerably cheaper) to continue to use my Echo pen. L.S desktop is not paticulary responsive or pleasant to use, but it allows for the minimal functions necessary to use the Echo pen. Had the Wifi pen worked with desktop I would not have written this review. Don't take my word for it, check the livescribe support website and forums for yourself.

    [...]

For those people who currently own an Echo or Pulse, buying a Sky Pen or Livescribe Wifi would be a retrograde step. Other issues include:

    1. only being able to save notes via an online application introduces security risks, connection issues
    2. the only dot pads available to purchase do not include the necessary buttons to connect via wifi

I'm sure there are many more, just taking a look on the L.S user forum pages

I have had an Echo smartpen for a few years now and used it religiously for meetings, notes, etc. However, when I changed jobs I was not able to install the Livescribe Desktop on my work PC. This meant then having to store my notes etc on my home laptop.

I have looked at this new Wifi pen for some time now but was put off by the previously negative reviews. But I then decided to take the plunge and but it. What a great decision! It arrived from Amazon within 24 hours of ordering and after taking a few minutes to set the pen up, register it with Livescribe and link it to my Evernote account (which I use all the time and was the main reason for getting this pen) and after the pen downloading a number of updates, I am good to go.

The pen ha all the great features of my old Echo but as soon as I sync my pen over Wifi my notes are there in my Evernote account to access wherever and whenever I want.

The new A5 pad that comes with the pen has a full keyboard on the inside cover to be able to set Wifi up and it also cam ewith two sticker sheets with keyboard and Wifi controls on that I can keep with the older A4 and A5 pads that I have.

All in all, a great product.
