Product Description

Product Description

This is not only the story of one person. It is the story of the relationships of J. Krishnamurti and people closely involved with him, especially Rosalind Williams Rajagopal and D. Rajagopal, my mother and father, and of the consequences of this involvement on their lives. Recently there have been biographies and a biographical film on Krishnamurti that have left areas, and a large span of years, in mysterious darkness. It is not in the interest of historical integrity, especially where such a personality is concerned, that there be these areas of obscurity."Sloss's achievement in Lives in the Shadow with J. Krishnamurti is to have made him interesting without embalming him in flattery. . . . She brings us insights and information that help to flesh out someone who has been projected as a spiritual skeleton by too many biographies. . . . Without ever losing sight of her huge affection for her subject, Sloss is able to look beyond the myth."Times Literary Supplement, London

By Emily R
Format:Paperback
I feel this book is enourmously courageous. We like our heroes to be without stain to be some sort of impossibly unnatural superhero. This is an account of Sloss's personal memories and experiences and the impact intimacy with Krishnamurti had on her family. Her views and understanding of this are perfectly valid and needed if we are to have a balanced view of this iconic figure. Krishnamurti was truly great in his presentation of deep philosophy but he was also a man, and I don't understand why the previous reviewer seemingly wants to shoot the brave messenger who wrote this book.

I appreciate personal experience and detailed knowledge of home life of a guru as different from public life. Even the guru is human being.

How sad 5 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
How sad that Radha Rajagopal Sloss appears to have lost the opportunities that her relationship with Krishnamurti offered, and that she felt the need to write this book. If you have read this book, I urge you to read Krishnamurti and the Rajagopals which Mary Lutyens wrote in response.
