Product Description

Product Description

David Renton was in his mid-teens a country standard middle-distance runner. He tells the story of how he began to run, and of the influence over him of his father's own career as an international-standard rower. He portrays running as a step towards a world of freedom, and describes his father's own attempts to find ideas that would guide his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stuff 17 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When I first picked it up I had no idea what I was going to think about the book but I really enjoyed Lives; Running.

A curious and innovative mix of personal reminiscence, political and sporting history and philosophical reflection on the physicality of our bodies.

I suspect the subject matter (looking back at a teenage middle distance running career) might not be to everybody's taste, but the writing is excellent and the telling of the tale enthralling). There's a solid pace to the book that reflects its subject matter and makes reading feel effortless. I certainly found myself reading the entire thing in just two sittings and I'd heartily recommend it - for its unique style, for its fascinating blend of personal and political and most of all for it's explanation of how Seb Coe even ran like a Tory.
