tis now a time (as i write, jan 2010) in the red`s history when one can barely raise neither a proud boast nor a defiant prediction of defeating any team in the current premiership. how low we have sunk, in stark contrast to the immense sense of pride, achievement and expectation we ebulliently felt in the late spring of 2001. to my delight the product never shirked from showing the lows (obviously few and far as they were during the sensational season), and gave a truly honest chronologial depiction of all games played. it is surprising how much one forgets (albeit was 9 years ago) so many facets of that season. just how good steven gerrard was in his emerging season, - arguably more effective then than he is now to the current team. one can see the rawness significantly overshadowed by the fierceness of his tackling, his mobility, his fantastic shooting, energy and enthusiasm. one is reminded just how sharp, confident and lethal in front of goal michael owen was in those days (makes one feel almost ashamed at the bitterness felt and dispayed towards him now that he has elected to sign up for the scum down the east lancs road). the marvellous, natural, goal scorer robbie fowler was. the abundance of riches we had in front of goal exemplified by the power and goal scoring ability of a so superbly effective emile heskey. i was pleasantly reminded of just how good a buy nicky barmby proved, especially his seriously important goal contributions throughout the campaign. marcus babbel, so skilful, mobile and intelligent (such a pity illness shortened this guy`s wonderful career for liverpool). sami hyypia in the embryo of what proved to be an outstanding service to the reds showing skill, determination, strength and resolve, ..... if only we could unearth another like him right now to shore up the current glaring weak liverpool backline. then of course gary mac, just how inspired a steal was he? watch the dvd and be amazed just how cool the guy was taking penalties in semi and final ties as well as knife edge league games, and gleefully recall how he knocked in a 40 yard free kick in the everton net to snatch victory over the bitter blues in the last minute. you need to watch this also to realise just how good smicer actually was. a thoroughly enjoyable dvd that recalls glorious fightbacks and unlimited self belief which lifts one`s spirits enormously, especially in contrast to the rubbish being served up now. a fantastic review of a proud period in liverpool f c`s history.
