This is a recording from the Pie's first US tour. It starts with the acoustic "For Your Love" which is a meandering track which the American audience were not interested in..you can hear Marriot telling them to "shut up" at the start of the song! However the album then kicks off with a meaty version of "Shakin' all over" that captures the raw electric power of the band.

I just love the sound of the Pie live, a broth of beltin' vocals, thick fatty guitar tones, underpinned by a truly ominous crust of deep bass and power drums, a recipe that is fully realised on their astonishing Fillmore Performance album album a couple of years later. A sound that was never really captured on any of their studio albums.

This is a must-buy for any Pie fans out there who will love the early 'experimental' version of "Walk on Gilded Splinters" a portent of greater things to come.

It took a couple of listenings to really appreciate this album but well worth it. Some real interesting songs here and you can sense how they will develope as a band. A good addition to any music collection.

MORE HUMBLE THAN PIE! 31 Jan 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
In 1969 the newly formed Humble Pie were still finding their musical feet. Two hastliy issued studio albums made this painfully obvious. So if you wondered what they sounded like live at this point, the answer is well, a wee bit underwhelming. There would be a tougher sound, and a whole lot of dollars at the end of the tunnel, a mere two years further on. At this point however, the band still seem to be struggling in the dark.

The album is interesting as a period piece, but these blues rock workouts seem to lack conviction. Still, at this price, it's hardly a rip off!
