Biography

In the late 1940s and early '50s, Chicago was the epicenter of the blues explosion; all the roads led there, from Mississippi Delta, the Midwest and the Southeast. It all began in 1948 with the release of a 78-rpm single by a singer-guitarist called Muddy Waters. Aristocrat 1305 bore a pair of traditional Mississippi Delta-styled pieces "I Can't Be Satisfied" and "I Feel ... Read more in Amazon's Muddy Waters Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Muddy Waters, Blue Skies 4 Aug 2005
By Lozarithm VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Muddy Waters was signed to Johnny Winter's Blue Skies label in 1976. He had been in semi-retirement for a couple of years following a car accident, but had made a striking return in 1975 with The Muddy Waters Woodstock Album, his last album for Chess, produced by Levon Helm from the Band. Received wisdom is that at the time of Johnny Winter acquiring Muddy Waters' services he was a spent and forgotten force; however one only has to see his 1976 performance and its reception in The Last Waltz, the filmed concert of the Band's farewell concert featuring stellar guests, at which he famously performed Mannish Boy, to see that this simply was not the case.
Johnny Winter certainly did no harm to the revitalization of his career and helped to break him to a new, predominantly white rock audience. He produced and arranged Hard Again, the first album under the new contract, and also played some guitar on it, though he retained Bob Margolin from the Woodstock and Last Waltz line-ups, as well as legendary pianist Pinetop Perkins. Muddy turned in some new songs alongside ferocious re-workings of familiar material including Mannish Boy and I Want To Be Loved (as covered by the Stones), and provided some tasty slide guitar on I Can't Be Satisfied, the Big Bill Broonzy tune he had first recorded in 1948 and which had also inspired the Rolling Stones' version on their No. 2 album. Though not a replacement for the originals, they stand alongside them in terms of performance quality, and benefit from the advances of recording technology.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Reason Why........... 12 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
I bought this cd as I was lucky enough to see Muddy Waters twice as support to Eric Clapton in 1978 and he stole the show both times. This cd captures the brilliance of the man when he was alive.Favourites for me being "Mannish Boy" and "Kansas City" though there`s not a bad track on either cd 1 or cd 2.
Muddy Waters was a good age when this music was recorded but it`s played with passion, energy and honesty....something lacking in a lot of music today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue Skies. 29 July 2010
Format:Audio CD
This was my introduction to Muddy Waters and what an introduction it is.
It contains the best of the 3 Johnny Winter albums along with a couple of live tracks for good measure.
The band they put together is as tight as two coats of paint and this album shows it, man, I could sit and listen to 'I'm Ready' all day.
Buy it and buy it now. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Da BLUES 17 Oct 2003
Format:Audio CD
Excellent, excellent! One of the kings of blues, live, kickstarting your emotions like a whip on your soul! Already the opening with the mythical "Mannish Boy", and then more and more breathtaking classics through the two discs, till the closure with "Got my mojo working"... a climax of pathos, a crescendo of chills like only Muddy Waters can give. Of course the live recording isn't as good as in studio, but here it even amplifies the emotions that the music already brings down onto the listener!
If I didn't have already, I'd buy it right away!

By Tadman
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Of the recent C.D 's bought recently through Amazon this is probably my favourite ... I simply love the freshness of the recording a sense that the musicians came together did their stuff and produced some spontaneous memorable music that has often been copied better rarely bettered ... Blues can been fun!!!!!
