After 10 years in the industry, this band has definite potential to becoming one of the greatest bands in music history. Ozomatli literally had San Francisco on fire!! The Los Angeles-based ensemble performed an array of their most treasured songs on December 8, 2004 at the famed Fillmore and absolutely carried the audience with them. I watched this concert last night on a DIRECTV freeview presentation and I was overwhelmed at the way they blended Salsa, Pop, Dance, Roots, and Hip-Hop all in one setting. Everyone on stage could play an instrument as well as vocalize with sheer precision. They had so much energy and conveyed their music with so much power and confidence. (Yo, the two mc's that rocked the mics got skills, too! They know how to freestyle and get the party jumpin'!!) Honestly, seeing these guys in concert and hearing the raw talent displayed in this band brings you closer to a world that anyone maybe unfamiliar with. That's what this industry needs. Artists who attract other fans and allow new audiences to aspire to culture. I look forward to purchasing both the cd and dvd together and hopefully get to see them up close and personally. Ozomatli is really the epitome of what music should be and that is unity. This project includes everybody. It is certainly one of my favorites and an absolute breath of fresh air that is missing in today's music industry.
