Some books are more just for men than others. I found the testosterone filled masculinity, of `Live Wire' a rich for me. That doesn't mean it's not exciting, occasionally very funny and carefully plotted out.
There is an uneasy, jolting quality to `Live Wire' that makes for jumpy reading, nothing really flows, chaps being referred to by their unusual surnames names seem to break up the page with their awkwardness. `Crisp', `Ache', `Snow' as well as `Bolitar' just seem to jar.
I suppose that being more at home in England than the USA worked against my enjoyment. With a filmic feel, the action is hectic, impetuous and violent. Mylon has his sidekick Win, who really is remarkable; a James Bond type pal who exists to rescue Mylon from disaster, with panache, and cash. Other support acts are Big Cindi and the redoubtable Esperanza. The kind of friends to get you out of a tight spot.
Mickey, Mylon's nephew, who we first meet here, is set to feature in Harlan Coben's new young adult novel Shelter (Mickey Bolitar 1 Adult Cover). Interesting to see HC using a new skill.
The title is a clever pun, which I only got towards the end of the book.
