This new "In Crowd" CD offers 2 concerts from 1963 the first is a Japanese club date and the second is one for BBC TV backed by Ted Heath and his Music and is made up of extracts from a longer show entitled An Evening with Nat King Cole dating from 21 September 1963.
Although these sound like locally recorded and an off air recorded show the sound quality is I suppose surprisingly clear considering their vintage. If you listen carefully there is some back echo on some of the vocals on the Japanese tracks but it is not too distracting. I tend to listen to my new CDs through a pair of high specification headphones first time around so I can pick up any problems easily.
This is a rare and fascinating recording putting together 2 shows from the same year and including songs from his recent albums and his big hits. Personally, I enjoyed the second half more because I like the songs and also the sound is better on that portion.
This is a collectors limited edition release and I think it is something that a collector will add to their recordings for completeness. Value wise the price is very fair and you do get close on 80 minutes of live recordings.
