Biographyby Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After vocalist Andrew Wood overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 27 Jun 2007
Format:Audio CD
I find it difficult to find a good place to start about this album! I stumbled across it by accident really but I am extremely glad now that i did come across it. I've been a huge Pearl Jam Fan for a good few years now and this is why. This album shows just what Pearl Jam are all about, giving excellent live music to massive crowds around the globe. With 100 tracks in all of 76 different Pearl Jam songs or the most popular Pearl Jam cover songs (Baba O'Riley by The Who and Rockin' In The Free World by Neil Young to name a couple)the only slight problem is the repetitivity of some tracks. However, this is an album consisting of three different entire live shows so Pearl Jam can be forgiven for giving the fans what they wanted on each seperate night i suppose (and if that means Corduroy on all three set lists so be it!). Its hard to pull out something else that the band have done wrong here though. Each song being moulded by the band with entirely new, improvised solo's or riffs at least mean that you will never have heard these songs quite like this before. Perhaps that's why this album is so incredible. It takes already excellent songs from the various albums of Pearl Jams past and makes so much more out of them that you wonder why they never just played these versions for the studio albums (perhaps the 9 minute tag on some songs is the reason). The inclusion of rarities such as Dirty Frank (not played live since 1994 before 2006 I believe) is also another huge bonus of this album as well as the first hearings of the tracks from the new album Pearl Jam on a live album. Overall, to reiterate, this album is nothing short of awesome it could possibly be the best of the 70+ live albums that Pearl Jam have released! Pearl Jam at their excellent best, as soon as you've heard the first show you'll be desperate to see Pearl Jam live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just great 19 Sep 2010
Format:Audio CD
Ignore the 1 star reviews here, they are based on amazon's service rather than the actual product. This is probably the best live album I have ever heard and if you are a fan of PJ in any way then you really should check this out. There's a reason they're one of the few survivors of the 90s grunge scene! Would love to see them live if they ever come back to Scotland!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam at their best 20 Feb 2013
Format:Audio CD
I always believe you should go through life with as few regrets as possible. Last summer I had the opportunity to get a ticket for PJ in Manchester. I had a few other gigs on the go at the time and although I had their first four albums I had lost interest in them over the years and so decided I'd save my money for another gig. Last week I was in a certain well known high street cd store and noticed this at a knock down price. I thought about it and decided to go for it, 7 discs at 22 it had to be good value, didn't it? Well, I certainly don't regret paying that 22 but now after listening to this collection I do regret not buying that ticket last summer, hell it wasn't even expensive compared to most major bands these days.

I won't go into too much detail, but basically you get 3 full gigs at over 7 hours of music. All the favourites are on there including 'Alive', 'Even Flow', 'Yellow Ledbetter' etc and yes many of the songs are repeated but bands like Pearl Jam don't merely repeat what was recorded and there are extended jams on a number of the songs with quite a few interesting covers thrown in for good measure. Eddie's between song banter is quite amusing especially on the first concert where he tries to get the crowd to tempt Tom Petty out of his nearby hotel. You can tell that everyone's having a great time and that this is not a band who are just going through the motions. Each of these gigs is important to them and they are playing with a passion that only the very best live acts can match. So, if you're wondering whether to go out and invest in this collection, wonder no more, even at 30 this is excellent value for money, you won't regret it. As for the next time they come to Manchester, I will buy that ticket.
