I first saw the Electric Light Orchesta in late 1973 around the time "On the Third Day" came out. I remember being totally blown away by their performance. I would see them again twice in 1974 in a 2,500 seat theatre in the round, with a revolving stage. In 1976 I would see them again on their "Face the Music" tour.
The performances on this DVD represent the fine musicianship that I remember from the shows I attended. It's as if I stepped into a time machine and have been transported back to 1973/74/76.
I'm really glad that I ordered my copy of this from Amazon UK. since the US release was going to offer an edited version, missing three key performances. In my opinion the early years of E.L.O. they were in their prime. This DVD release is a very well worth purchase, and one that I will always appreciate.
I would like to add my respects on the passing of one of ELO's original cellists, Mike Edwards who was involved in a fatal accident Sept. 3, 2010. Mike played cello on the three performances I saw in 73/74. This DVD then has become a fitting and timely tribute to Mike Edwards. Thank you for your contributions to the band. Rest In Peace.
