Product Description

2010 is the 40th Anniversary of the Electric Light Orchestra. ELO was formed in 1970 by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood from the ashes of The Move. Roy Wood soon left to form Wizzard and Jeff Lynne lead ELO on to become one of the biggest selling acts of the seventies and eighties with global album sales in excess of 50 million. This DVD brings together three live concerts from the earlier part of the band s career. The first is a four track excerpt from a show at Brunel University in 1973, the second a longer eight track set filmed for the German TV series Rockpalast in 1974 and finally the Fusion concert from the New Victoria Theatre in London in 1976, filmed during the Face The Music tour. The DVD makes the perfect companion piece to Eagle s Gold selling Out Of The Blue: Live at Wembley DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Live ELO DVD 11 Aug 2010
By Steve
At last! Eagle vision have released the Fusion concert on DVD, plus some even rarer footage from 1973 at Brunel University and the 1974 Rockpalast TV performances which are like a kind of German ''Old Grey Whistle test'' type thing.
The visuals and sound are just fine with DTS and 5.1 sound, Its a huge improvement from the dismal ''In Performance'' DVD also on sale here, with nice menus and an informative inner booklet. ELO have never been given much credit about their live performances due to some very poorly mastered videos in the past, but buy this and you will not be disappointed!
The DVD is NTSC Region free, so don't be put off buying it for UK use as most if not all modern players will handle this very adequately.
Happy 40th Anniversary! A must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best ELO live video I have seen 15 July 2010
By Tim H
If you like the On The Third Day, Face the Music and Eldorado albums you'll love this DVD. I got an early copy from a friend and I stuck it on and just listened to it from start to finish in one go. The sound is excellent and the footage is real up close in detail - being smaller venues and a studio session for TV. You can even have a chuckle at the 70's attire (Nice cape Mik!)

Really enjoyable stuff and great keyboard and strings too. I always wondered if he played those fast arpeggio keyboards live on 'Poker' - he does!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do It With the Light On 26 Aug 2010
I first saw the Electric Light Orchesta in late 1973 around the time "On the Third Day" came out. I remember being totally blown away by their performance. I would see them again twice in 1974 in a 2,500 seat theatre in the round, with a revolving stage. In 1976 I would see them again on their "Face the Music" tour.
The performances on this DVD represent the fine musicianship that I remember from the shows I attended. It's as if I stepped into a time machine and have been transported back to 1973/74/76.
I'm really glad that I ordered my copy of this from Amazon UK. since the US release was going to offer an edited version, missing three key performances. In my opinion the early years of E.L.O. they were in their prime. This DVD release is a very well worth purchase, and one that I will always appreciate.
I would like to add my respects on the passing of one of ELO's original cellists, Mike Edwards who was involved in a fatal accident Sept. 3, 2010. Mike played cello on the three performances I saw in 73/74. This DVD then has become a fitting and timely tribute to Mike Edwards. Thank you for your contributions to the band. Rest In Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars ELO OLDSCHOOL!!! 11 Nov 2010
By Stauf
You will miss out on the best of live ELO, if you don't get this DVD. It's one of the finest views to the original ELO ever released. I cannot say enough good about it, and for those true fans, you will soon learn why. Do buy the UK version, as it is not editted, and will still work on your US DVD player. Don't even question whether you need this. If you love the Electric Light Orchestra, then you need to get your hands on this.

The American release does NOT have the two versions of Roll Over Beethoven that appear on this DVD, and this DVD IS NTSC, which means it will play in your machine. Buy this, not the American version, if you love ELO and want the full experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent 19 Oct 2010
My favourite ELO period is the time of Eldorado and Face The Music, albums I rate as highly as anything in my collection, FTM slightly edging it as just about the perfect album. So, the Fusion concert is absolute heaven to me as I had not seen it before and is probably the wish-list of a set I would choose. I'm watching it for the first time now and loving it. The only very slight negative I am finding is that I am possibly detecting backing tapes for orchestra (Eldorado Overture) and vocals (Showdown) but I could be totally wrong. And even if it was the case then I should get over it and enjoy the show...the sound is wonderful with all the violin and cello subtle nuances coming through, Kelly's backing and lead vocals are brilliant and visually the whole thing is stunning. Just fantastic. And of course the Brunel and Rockpalast shows are great too, ELO at that time had a great rough-hewn charm about them and they really were a group of great musicians on a mission and giving their all in great 'uncool' style, I was particularly impressed by Mike Du Albuquerque's (sp) input...great soulful vocals backing up Jeff... and all those wild unkempt hairstyles which got slightly more refined by 1976 :-) This is all truly wonderful. I'm a happy man!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back To The Basics 24 April 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I oredered this one from UK as suggested by other reviewers. I was not diappointed at all. In fact I am genuinely surprised with the quality of the video and the music. It's like an ELO time capsule. Fantasik.

5.0 out of 5 stars ELO - Live The Early Years 15 Oct 2010
By mequity
I come from somewhat of a biased point of view when it come to any ELO release and/or music as I am wholly an ELO nut. That said.. this DVD has some very good visuals and sound considering it's heritage (and is distinctly 'light years ahead' of the Wembley release). Most of the faithful would have seen the various concert footage supplied on this DVD in the past somewhere else so there isn't probably anything new to gravitate towards from a 'must have' point of view however it is nice just to have this stuff on single easy to use medium. The content is entertaining - including the odd spot where it appears Jeff forgets the words and Kelly covers up for him (although I'm not sure if even Kelly's choice of suit color - green - was even trendy in the mid '70's). If you like ELO and I mean beyond listening to the Discovery/Xanadu era then this is worth having.
Now if somebody could look at sorting out the Heartbeat, Time Tour and all the Midnight Special footage then that would be fantastic.
