The CD contains material which has been culled from a week-long engagement by the Pack in November 1962 at the Villa Venice in Chicago, and seamlessly put together as though it were one show. The sound is of a similarly high standard to that of the fairly recent 'Live At The Sands' album, but with a very different programme of songs. Fantastic stuff it is too!
The DVD is the real gem here though, as it contains the only fully taped video performance of the guys in action. Recorded in 1965 at Dismas House, St. Louis, this concert has been released previously in audio-only format, but the addition of video footage brings a whole new dimension. It should be pointed out that the DVD is in black & white, but please don't let that dissuade you, as it's an absolute corker. Johnny Carson (TV's The Tonight Show) serves as M.C. and referee for 90 minutes of great music and hilarity. You will be smiling from start to finish.
I cannot recommend this release highly enough, whether you are a seasoned Rat Pack fan or a complete newcomer, this will appeal to both, and everyone in between. I had high hopes (if you'll forgive the pun!) for this set, and I'm delighted to say that it really delivers. First class!
But as one reviewer already stated the prize here is the DVD. I have personaly never seen the trio on stage, im just way to young. But after seeing this I can say im ok with that fact, it is the next best thing to being sat in front of them.
The quality of both are great, and the DVD is 90 minutes of sheer excellence especialy considering its age and the made for US tv factor. The guys just are the Rat Pack, what else do you need to know?
If you love swing you must get this, if you love them you must get this. But most of all if you love entertainment, you have to get this!
I had one Frank Sinatra CD before I bought this, after listening to the CD and watching the DVD I have expanded my collection - I now have about 10... Read more
