2.0 out of 5 stars Curate's egg-- good in parts 18 May 2004
Format:DVD
A fine performance from Albert King - what a shame there was not more of it! The performance runs 58 mins in total including two extracts from an interview with the great man, and a 12 minute instrumental by the backing band without Albert on stage.

This is straight from Swedish TV and even commits the sin of starting one song, going to interview whilst the music runs underneath, and then back to the song. Even the pack shot is from a different concert.

Griping apart when King himself plays and sings you have to forgive the other shortcomings. If there was more of Albert and less filling I would rate this much higher.

Tracks:-
Born under a bad sign
The sky is crying
The very thought of you
Cadillac Assembly line
Cold women with warm hearts
As the years go passing by

Plus Summertime (by the backing band)

3.0 out of 5 stars The best at his worst 25 Feb 2010
Format:DVD
This is a crying shame. The only dvd devoted to Albert King (every guitarist's favourite blues guitarist) catches him on the only occasion that I've heard him off-form. Maybe the filming made him uptight, but he's constantly fiddling with his amp and guitar and never seems quite in tune (literally or mentally) with the band, at times leaving it to his competent but undistinguished second guitarist to take the solos. Not recommended. Fortunately there IS one dvd that catches Albert on form - that's 'John Mayall: Jammin' With The Blues Greats'. Buy that instead. If you look at the reviews of Jammin' With the Blues Greats' on the Amazon.com (US) site, the first reviewer gives a breakdown of all the hard-to-find video footage of Albert - he still reckons that 'Jammin'...' is the best, and he doesn't rate this one. Of Course, if you love Albert, you'll have to have this, but definitely not recommended to newcomers.
