Chet Baker's trumpet and vocal approach was immediately recognizable and striking, especially in his prime. He was known for his clear tone, reflective and subdued style, soft volume and careful, restrained approach in his choices of notes for melodic sequences. 5.0 out of 5 stars audiophile recording 21 Aug 2013
Format:Audio CD
Recorded live 1983 in Nefertiti Jazz club Gothenburg Sweden this recording on vinyl has a stunning sound. Me and my audiophile friends use it as a demo recording of what can be achived when everything is done correct. The music is also very beautiful special the 13 min track Lament. The CD version is also good but the vinyl wow.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of his best!!!!!!! 9 Mar 2012

Like Mr.Lopez said th8is is Chet at his best.Yes he was over recorded and many times came out with a poor CD but here we have a late LP that (Along w/"The Last Great Concerts" and Candy") are spot on with Chet op-laying lyrically and beautifully. In my opinion the version of one of his favorite songs in his repertoire,Sam Rivers "Beatrice" is played as beautifully as you'll here that song anywhere by anyone. The Ake Johansson Trio swing nicely and it just all came together here.

5.0 out of 5 stars At his best without knowing it 9 Aug 2005
By J. Lopez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Chet Baker's 1983 Swedish tour captures the trumpeter going through the motions -- extraordinary motions. The groove he got into in the 1980s in Europe found him performing excellent concert after excellent concert in places like Paris, Bologna and here in Gothenburg. Chet sings on My Ideal and But Not for Me and cooks up some compelling understated solos, too. To the casual fan this will sound like any old Chet Baker live record. For the afficionado it will reveal another facet of his sound and evolution, the tragic and the sublime.
