Another pretty decent live concert from Diana Krall however it's definitely not as good as Paris or even Montreal.Early on, the sound is not quite up to scratch and Diana's piano is drowned out somewhat by Hamilton's rather clunky sounding drums - this though is soon corrected. The blue backdrop to the stage is just tooooo blue giving everyone an otherworldly aura about them that just isn't right.
Those technical moans aside there is much good music to be heard and at two and a quarter hours offers good value for money. The concert is made up of alternating segments between firstly,Diana and her quartet for two or three swingers before they incorporate the orchestra for some lush, gentle Bossa Nova. They then alternate this arrangement midway for more jazz/swing and then back to Bossa again.
Bossa Nova makes for beautiful music but,for me,the hard swinging jazz standards are the best with a lovely playful version of "Frim Fram Sauce".There are some lovely Bossa tracks too with "Quiet Nights" being almost a breathy whisper of a tune and "Walk on by" sounding just as good Brazilian style.
The DVD package also includes interviews with the band members and Diana herself as they discuss their views on Bossa Nova as a music stlye and what made them put the whole concert together in the first place.
A good concert DVD but certainly not the best of Diana Krall by any means.
