4.0 out of 5 stars great show on one disk 18 May 2011
By mr x
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
this is a really good performance and the only thing missing is a big encore when the crowd wants more. unlike other doors live gigs this is all on one disk in a nice looking card sleeve with accompanying booklet and for the price is a great place to start your doors live collection before moving on to boston and detroit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live Alive 19 Aug 2009
By J. E. Parry VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I am a very longstanding fan of The Doors and have almost everything that they have produced. In the last 30 years I've bought DVD's, CD's, boxsets and books but gave up a few years ago as everything had been essentially released.

I was browsing through the Amazon one day and found this and, in need of a new Doors fix, decided to buy it. I am not at all sorry I did.

This is a great Doors concert to own. the previous reviewer was a little peeved at the amount of blues material on the CD but, as they were blues fans, this is no surprise to anyone else. The blues was the root of their sound and influence.

There are abrnstorming renditions of all their favourites, concert and album, but I will say that When The Music's Over did try my patience in the improvised section. Yet I can live with this as this is what the band produced and you get the live feeling that album does not provide.

The band had just started to refind themselves after the disaster that was The Soft Parade, which probably explains the amount of blues material and the lack of the "poppy songs" that others may like.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for an idea of what a Doors concert could be and for the mercurial performance that Jim Morrison could give.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great live album 28 Feb 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
According to the booklet, Jim was sober for the concert in Pittsburgh. And yes, Jim sounds amazingly fresh and focused. The overall quality of this recording is excellent, very high quality. Ray, Robby and John are playing so good on this record. Just listen to 'Mystery Train, away in India and crossroad blues', it all flows so naturally. Why no 5 stars? There's no 'the end' unfortunately. So, if you are looking for a great live album from the Doors, this is one comes highly recommended!

Having seen The Doors in London at The Roundhouse ( excellent show ) and then at The Isle of Wight in 1970 ( mediocre show ) I hesitated before buying this CD but am so glad that I did. The mix is superb , clarity is excellent and the band are as one. Superb recording………….if your a Doors fan then trust me you WILL love this amazing show. With The Doors the music is never over…...
