I'll cut to the chase (to use a jazz term i think), this is one of Hank Jone's greatest CD's. I have over fifty CDs with Hank as a leader after he converted me to jazz piano in 1993 with 'Upon Reflection' which is another of his best.

If you're not familar with Hank Jones or jazz piano then try this - i'm sure most fans have this already. His playing on this CD as usual is not just great jazz (all jazz adjectives/verbs APPLY - swing, blues feel, pure improvisation etc) but has a grace and beauty that do things to you!

'For my Father' and 'The Oracle' are others on the list.

In my opinion, a piano player has to master these following styles; bebop, rock, gospel and last but not least...stride. Not only, does Hank Jones master these humble requirements, but he has lived through every one of them. He's had the privilege of watching jazz giants like Art Tatum, Fats Waller and Teddy Wilson at their best and "at Maybeck" we can hear all these legends combined with a vital, personal and respectable presence that can only be described as Hank Jones.
