Simply Red's shows at the London's legendary Lyceum Theatre reaffirmed Mick Hucknall's mastery of delivering a live set, dominated by a vocal performance of peerless intensity and soulfulness. Backed by a twelve-piece band, which included a smouldering horn section and the enthralling sax of Ian Kirkham, Hucknall unrolled a litany of Simply Red classics alongside his newer material, which underlined the extraordinary number of successes which the group has enjoyed - a catalogue of hits unrivalled in modern British pop. The show was filmed in September 1998.
A beautifully renovated theatre for a beautifully renovated band! This night was a showcase for who Simply Red are right now. Familiar faces like Dee, Sarah, Ian, Gota and Andy are its bedrock, and the new boys Tim, Wayne, Kenji and Mark have brought a refreshingly committed and potentially exciting dimension to the continually developing sound of Simply Red. Good concert..too fast editing!,

Simply Red have many live DVD's out and I made the choice to go for this one as my first as it seemed to have a very good selection of their greatest hits and was a good price.I'm very happy with the concert but I must point out that the editing of this concert is very distracting..well it was to me anyway.For example in the song "Its Only Love" I counted 43 camera cuts just during the intro before the lyrics start and this pattern continues through out the whole concert.It can get very dis-orienting after a while and when a guitarist is playing one of those famous Simply Red riffs we get about 2 seconds of him playing before it cuts to a long shot of the stage and 2 seconds later we are on an audience shot.Don't get me wrong...a great concert and thats why i'm giving 4 stars but all this fast paced editing ruined it for me especially as the venue used for this gig is very intimate and this would had been better served by the director not being so camera cutting happy.Just my opinion mind but hey thats what reviews are for.

Mick Hucknall's live performance in this edition is unique. The place itself created a very intimate atmosphere that gave Simply Red the opportunity to show to all the fans how good they are performing live. I have seen it more or less 20 times and still I hope to enjoy it again and again.Specially fascinating their performing of Picture Book, Come to my aid,Infidelity,Sad Old Red, Thrill me and Holding Back the Years. This edition has been for me quite more attracting than "The Spirit of Life Tour" concerts in Barcelona and Paris.

I go along with the other reviews, but be aware that for £1 more, you can get this DVD and a Greatest Hits DVD as well, because it is half of the 2 DVD Set Live in London/Greatest Hits Box Set. I got caught out on this and I felt quite disappointed that this fact had not been included in both product's description.
