This 2008 CD/DVD concert release finds diva Beth Ditto holding court in Liverpool, England, where the Gossip's fierce brand of soul-tinged indie-rock is warmly embraced. Backed inYeah Yeah Yeahs fashion by guitarist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie, Ditto careens through a set list that drawsprimarily from `06's STANDING IN THE WAY OF CONTROL, and includes a blistering take on that record's title track. Although live albums often pale in comparison to studio recordings, LIVERPOOL is arguably superior to CONTROL, thanks to the Portland, Oregon-based band's wire-tight musicianship and Ditto's commanding presence. For diehard fans of the Gossip, LIVERPOOL is essential.
