I was stupid and ordered this without reading more than the title...

It's full of Evangelical nonsense. What a pity.

Christ-Living Taken Seriously 24 Jan 2010
By M. Witwer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The primary reason that I recommend Addington's book is that the reader is challenged to take seriously what living for Jesus is all about. For too many, being a Christian is a religiously cultural formula that all too often misses Jesus. The author writes, "Our relationship with Christ is all about remaining in Him, staying close to Him, listening to His voice and allowing His Spirit to empower us so that we say no to sin and yes to righteousness."(p. 138). This is living like we mean it.
By structuring the book with the ten key questions, Addington makes the book very clear and understandable. The intensely personal and transparent nature of this third book of his only increases its helpfulness.
I found chapter 10 on making a plan for our days, months and year to be a great help to my own intentionality and honestly, my favorite chapter.
I invite the author to write his next book on 'the practices that refresh'that he briefly mentioned in chapter 6 (pgs 104-105). Addington's clear, direct and livable approach would be a valuable contribution to the body of written work on the spiritual disciplines. --Dan Witwer

Life Changing 28 Mar 2010
By Sally J. Acosta - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book has a potential to change your life if you take what it says and live it. This book is becoming a life changer for me. My husband is a doctor and I am a stay at home mom. I often have a hard time finding my place and identity in a stay at home mom world. Society says that a doctor is very important whereas a stay at home mom is not. This book has been helpful for BOTH of us!!!! It has transformed my perspective. My husband is called to doctoring and has to ask the exact same questions about his purpose in life as I do. We are both just as equal in our calling. Also, we have a calling as a couple. We are very soon making a transition in locations for my husband's work, so the book couldn't have come at a better time. As a couple we have started to examine what our purpose will be together in our new location. What is our purpose as individuals? What is our purpose as a couple? What is our purpose as a family? God has given us each an identity, NOT in our job, but in HIM. So much of the time we are not living in the complete JOY that comes from our purpose in Christ. We are living a mediocre life and not understanding that there is so much more if we dig deeper into the way God made us each individual. The questions T.J. asks are not something to take lightly. The questions dive into the very core of who were are, why we do what we do and what we can do to make our lives so much more meaningful. Thank you T.J. for the beginning of a new journey for me, my marriage and our family.

Fyl's Thoughts on Live Like You Mean It 23 Feb 2011
By Fylvia Fowler Kline - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The cover very clearly tells you the book contains "the 10 crucial questions that will help you clarify your purpose, live intentionally and make the most of the rest of your life." The foreword also underscores the merits of learning and understanding through questions-"It is in wrestling with questions, and not giving the answers, that we grow and change." And with these expectations from the book, I set out on a Socratic journey of self discovery with the aid of Addington.

Every chapter focuses on one question and its answer, and ends with a few more reflective questions that can be used in group discussions. I liked that the questions are relevant and applicable to Christian growth and lifestyle. I also liked that Addington directs the reader to the Bible for answers. For example, the reader is pointed to Ephesians 2:10 to find the answer to the question "Why am I here?"

I would have liked Addington to take the questioning approach farther and use a more purer form of Socratic strategy. Questions are not as effective when they are followed by the answer and illustrative examples. Lessons are better understood and remembered when the questions arouse interest and curiosity while leading the learner to discover the answer and relish the gain of new, fresh insights. I felt the book did not meet the expectation set forth in the foreword.

Yet, despise that one small prejudice I have about the book's teaching strategy, I feel the substance of the book and the logic of Addington's treatment of the topic are worth the attention of any Christian committed to a lifestyle focused on God's calling.
