The early 1970s have taken on legendary status for one of the original pioneers of heavy rock. Many people will point you in the Direction of Made in Japan, one of the greatest selling live albums of all time. This, on the other hand, was recently discovered deep within the archives, and has been remastered from the original tapes to give what can only be described as a 5 star performance.
With a setlist almost identical to that of Made in Japan, you could be sceptical about the amount of new content. However, I cannot believe how fresh it sounds in comparison. Gillan is on top form, especially in a brilliant "Lucille" for the encore. Blackmore is as destructive as usual, you can imagine the fretboard being wrecked with some ferocity! This is Deep Purple Mk II at their very very best. Unfortunately it will probably only get aired by people wanting to add to their already vast collection, which is a shame! Spread the word people!
