This is the first of three releases from the 1976 Rainbow tour of Germany, each featuring a complete, unedited show.

Naturally, these shows have been circulating amongst fans almost since the daythey took place. But that is wrong. You should have waited 30 years for this instead. So, was it worth the wait? Um, yes and no.

On the down side, the "Rising" tour always seemed to have an odd set list, with only "Stargazer" and the lamentable "Do You Close Your Eyes" making it into the set. And with "Mistreated" and "Still I'm Sad" occupying a large part of the set, there was a surprising lack of classic Rainbow tracks I know they were new at the time but no "Tarot Woman", "Starstruck" or "Light In The Black"? Madness! And Cozy Powells drum sound hasn't benefited much from an official release. It still sounds like he's slowly slipping into a swamp.

On the upside, Blackmore was on fire on this tour. Some of his playing is otherworldly. His unpredictability was still a boon in those days, with no 2 nights alike.. As you will discover if you stick withthe series. Dio is also in fine form, recognising that after 20 years of slog, his time was now. Listen to "Catch The Rainbow" and be amazed.

As someone who recognises Blackmore as the greatest guitarist ever (and don't bother arguing - you're wrong), this is a nice addition to a ludicrously large collection. It's aimed squarely at fans, and they will like the music, if not the Rainbow by numbers liner notes.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! Please, if you have any love for classical rock music, buy this magnificent offering as soon as possible. Very few albums, and even less live albums, are worthy of five stars, make no mistake, this is one of the few.
The band are in magical form, from first note to last, but Blackmore is almost from another planet. His playing on this tour was indescribabale, dont take my word....buy it now.
Dio sounds as if he is singing for his life...the whole package is fantastic.....it makes Made In Japan sound almost average.....never thought anyone could say that. that is how good this is......just enjoy what was at the time the best live band in the world

Rainbow now have a bunch of great live CDs.

This being the latest, my expectations were high. I am pleased to say I wasn't dissapointed. Probably the best quality recording of them all so far, I was taken back at how much more sound was being thrown at me from this concert.

A must for Rainbow fans.

To me the classic Rainbow line up of jimmy bain on bass, cozy powell on drums, tony carey on keyboards, ronnie james dio on vocals and of course the man in black himself ritchie blackmore on guitar.Essentially it is the same setlist as Rainbow on stage with the addition of the classic Stargazer from the classic Rainbow Rising album. Contains the iconic opener kill the king, mistreated, catch the rainbow, sixteenth century greensleeves, still i'm sad and do you close your eyes and if you listen very carefully you can hear ritchie smashing his strat!!Captures the rawness of a Rainbow gig from the classic line up.

Ronnie James Dio (RIP) was a great vocalist and surrounded as he was by other fine muscians they could go wrong musically. This shows how good they were. Pity someones ego got in the way!
