Product Description

CD Description

Often described as the “Norse God of Metal”, Jorn is certainly one of the leaders of the renaissance of classic hard rock on its highest level and one of the most prolific and sought-after singers of today, whose immense vocal talent has reserved him a status of a living legend to be counted amongst the greatest giants in the history of rock.
Jorn Lande became widely known in the hard rock/metal community singing for such bands as Millenium, Ark and finally Masterplan, the band featuring former Helloween guitar player Roland Grapow. He also guested on several projects such as the Allen Lande albums (with Symphony X singer Russell Allen), Avantasia, Beyond Twilight and Brazen Abbot. However he also has his own band project JORN, who debuted in 2000 and with whom he has released eight successful studio albums so far. 2010 was an important year for Jorn. Besides releasing his tribute album to Ronnie James Dio, he also took part to the final Heaven & Hell concert in Victoria Park, London together with Glenn Hughes on vocals. JORN appeared a few weeks earlier at the Sweden Rock Festival in Solvesborg where they took a crowd of 20,000 + by storm.
This live CD/DVD is the ultimate legacy of Jorn as and artist and band where they focus on the band’s repertoire and set a hard rock crowd on fire!

the voice of rock 12 Oct 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Amazing Jorn Lande captured in concert on the spirit black tour. The best vocalist since Ronnie, underated but awesome. This live album shows the guy sings as well live as in the studio. Great live rock album with some classics and loads off the latest spirit black album which is very good too. Keep it up Jorn!!

Of course Jorn is a superlative vocalist, his band are hot and this is a fantastic package from Frontiers with two CDs and a concert DVD for £13 - what's not to like. Well the terrible song selection for starters. Opening with three mid-paced plodders all of which lack a decent chorus does little to get the juices flowing I'm afraid..'Shadow People' and 'Below' are two of the least inspiring songs in Jorn's extensive catalogue and really aren't good enough to feature here. In fact you have to wait until "We brought the Angels.." and "Stormcrow.." for the first excitement...that's halfway through the first disc..Of course there are far fewer covers on this record than on previous Jorn live albums..but at the moment this is my least favourite Jorn live CD

Nice 3-disc live collection from the voice of melodic metal 1 Oct 2011
By Justin Gaines - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Well, the year wouldn't be complete without some kind of Jorn release, so while we wait for a proper follow up to Spirit Black the Norwegian super-vocalist serves up the hefty 3-disc Live in Black. Was another live Jorn offering really necessary this soon after Live in America? Probably not, but more Jorn is always a good thing. This particular performance came from 2010's Sweden Rock festival, so it's on a much larger scale than the ProgPower USA festival appearance on Live in America.

You're essentially getting a 17-song live performance spread across two audio CDs, with a DVD featuring the full performance plus a pair of video clips. The song selection covers Jorn's entire solo career, but is heavily weighted towards the last couple of albums, which is understandable. Jorn and company give a knockout performance, and the audio quality on both the CDs and DVD is quite good thanks in part to a great mixing job by Tommy Hansen (Jorn himself produced the album). In terms of video quality on the DVD, everything looks really good, with multiple cameras working and great shots of the band and the crowd. It's not as eye-popping as, say, Journey's Live in Manila DVD, but it's still a very professional release.

Live in Black is another high quality release from one of the most exciting performers in melodic rock/metal. If you're a serious Jorn fan, it's probably an essential release. Casual fans may want to skip this one, though it could definitely be used to convert newcomers to the church of Jorn!

Another great live album/DVD by Jorn and company ! 19 Sep 2011
By Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Norwegian rock/metal vocal titan Jorn Lande re-emerges with his second live album/DVD, "Live in Black" in support of his latest original studio offering "Spirit Black". The package captures Jorn's live performance at `Sweden Rock 2010' festival with a set list drawing upon his latest two original studio offerings "Lonely Are the Brave" and "Spirit Black".

Thankfully, in contrast to the previous live release "Live in America", `Frontiers' records have issued this 2CD plus DVD package which saves one the trouble of having to buy two separate releases. The line up on this album is similar to the formation that cut the tribute album "Dio" featuring long-serving guitarist Tore Moren and drummer Willy Bendiksen alongside new recruits guitarist Tor Erik Myhre and bassist Nic Angileri. Much like the previous live DVD, the band performs each song to the letter with admirable precision while given the time to shine during a coupe of solo spots. Jorn simply can not disappoint, proving time and time again just as good on stage as in the studio.

While an open air appearance, both audio and video footage is captured in magnificence with compact sound very close to studio standards (courtesy of Tommy Hansen) and flawless camera angles; in addition the color editing of the picture really makes the experience all the more intriguing and therefore enjoyable.

Amongst rock/metal circles enthusiasts have been keen to point out that "Live in Black" is perhaps not the best set-list Jorn could have offered to the fans, clearly leaving out most of his early material/hits. Still, one finds the new live offering a total success as it portrays Jorn's latest music, effectively differentiated from Jorn's previous live DVD/performance.

5 stars from The Norse God of Metal. 29 Aug 2011

I loved the Live in America 2cd/dvd release and honestly this release trumps that. Jorn is more in his (sorta) back-home element playing the neighboring Sweden Rock Festival, and he and his band are firing on all Cylinders playing songs from the excellent recent Spirit Black release and the equally-excellent Lonely are the Brave. Half of the show is collected from those 2 recent solo albums, and few from the Duke masterpiece and a couple of covers, and the obligatory guitar and drum solos thrown in for breaks. Sound, video, and more importantly editing for fabulously executed. A must own for the Jorn fan, and anyone who doesn't have the last couple of Jorn solo efforts, this will be a welcome addition to what you've been missing.
