This new CD captures a live performance from 1984 when Matt Monro was once again touring Australia. This was his 14th tour of the country and the final night of the tour was a great success. From the opening song clarity and atmosphere makes it a super performance. Matt always tailored the words for his venues and it was touching to hear references to Australia in "The Second Time Around". It is also an opportunity to listen into the comedy and banter between Matt and the audience and orchestra. This must have been a magical night for the audience and I know that this was the experience he created night after night.

There are so many highlights in this 60 minute show and I will have to single out track 3, a medley of I Write the Songs/ Portrait of My Love/ Walk Away/ I Write the Songs. Then I have to choose between the powerful, The Impossible Dream and standard, Where or When, I think it is a draw. Could Matt have ever completed a concert without singing either of these classics, From Russia with Love or Born Free. There really is so much that justifies the phrase "A Singers Singer" and in the case of Matt Monro it was well deserved. Musical director Peter Warren can be heard on piano solos and it is a swinging tour band. Liner notes are by Michele Monro and we get the story of how this recording first came to light. Richard Moore was sound engineer on the project and has achieved remarkable results.

It is almost inconceivable that barely 5 months after this concert was recorded Matt Monro would be dead. Not only is the voice in good shape, Matt is singing as well as I have ever heard him.

The voice is supple and all those signature legato lines that Monro could deliver so sumptuously are abundantly in evidence. The set is very much of its time (for exmple, there is the Manilow inspired 'I Sing The Songs' and 'One Voice') but the standards are delivered with impeccable style and grace. In fact, his version of 'Where or When' is quite a tour de force in its own unassuming way.

All in all a superb CD and a timely reminder of just why this man is so revered by singers and music lovers alike.

This is a fabulous concert - Just to warn anybody who was thinking of downloading the MP3's currently available under this title: - These are NOT the EMI release of the 1984 Concert but the 'One Media' Release of the sound track to "An Evening WIth Matt Monro" from 1967!

This is a truly wonderful "live" CD by Matt Monro, recorded live at Matt's concert at the Two Towers, Australia in 1984, only month's before the untimely passing of the world's greatest singer. Yes, Matt is/was the VERY BEST!!!!

All of Matts magical hit's appear here, along with some funny banter between Matt and his audience. Matt would have made a wonderful stand up comedian, he is so funny with some of his remark's on this CD. But when you listen to Matt's awesome voice we can only wonder and be truly amazed by his perfect pitch and glorious singing tones.
