Reviews

In September 1996 Tina Turner played three nights at the Amstedam Arena, performing many of the hits which have made her famous. This concert film, directed by the award-winning David Mallett, captures the spirit of those nights. Includes 'Nutbush City Limits', 'What's Love Got To Do With It', and 'Steamy Windows'.

This is the new version of Tina Turners Wildest Dreams Tour Dvd. It has DTS Surround Sound as well as the tradition 5.1 Dolby surround and 2.0 Dolby Stereo. It is a classic concert filmed live in the fantastic Amsterdam Arena in 1996. It is an absolutely electrifying concert and the atmosphere is amazing. I love when we see the audience from Tina's angle it brings a shiver down your spine. The camera work on here is amazing the picture quality is amazing. And the sound is so good. It is live and from the intro you feel your hairs stand up. At the beginning Tina leaves the audience in suspense and then struts on stage in am amazing silver Versace number. Looking amazing throughout. The first song 'Whatever you want' is an amazing performance and the false ending is great! She ingeniously fuses old and new hits together fabulously!
I especially love the performance of the Bond theme 'Goldeneye'
Tina appears in a bight light in an amazing silhouette with her amazing body as a spectacle. The performances are her best ever with so much energy and thunder. Proud Mary is an especially great number, with fantastic music. The package as a whole is lovely with the cover photo that is amazing too. The disc is a picture disc with the close up of the cover photo. The special features include the 'Whatever you want' music video and a making of her latest LP at the time 'Wildest Dreams' this is the corresponding tour btw. It shows interview with Tina and record producers. How each song came about and even a making of the 'Whatever you want' music video. And some clips from the' Goldeneye' video as well.
All in all a great Dvd. In my opinion the best concert ever staged. A thoroughly enjoyable concert and I advise you to move the coffee table to one side as you will be getting up to dance!

Cannot understand the "*" review and can only suggest that anyone who considers buying this DVD completely disregard it! To use a USA expression the lady rocks, from start to finish. She really engages with her audience and, certainly at this gig, you can see that she is truly enjoying herself. I had never heard the album Wildest Dreams but that had nothing to do with my buying this DVD. I bought it because I have seen Tina live and wanted a representation of her phenominal energy, voice and character. They are all here. I think this may have been shot in standard format and then 'stretched' for wide screen as the 54 odd (?) year old lady appears a bit broad but who gives a damn and anyway, for the female viewers, the beef cake who plays sax will be far more relevant! The production is very good with all musicians and the audience being given ample coverage - you almost feel like you are there but you have to link to your amplifier and wind up the volume. Springsteen interacts with his audience, just like Tina and that makes such a difference. I have just watched Don Henley's Live Inide Job and technically it is fine but with zero, zilch atmosphere. He just stands there and sings. Tina on the other hand "Hello evrybody, are you doing all right? I said are you doing aaaal right?! OK lets party!" As I say, the lady rocks. One last point. Her finale track 'On Silent Wings' is enormously powerful and emotional and I will find this and rip it into my Real Player library. Enjoy.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By I. Giles HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on 6 Sept. 2012
Format: DVD
This DVD recorded in Amsterdam comes from Tina's Wildest Dreams tour which was a spectacular success playing over 150 concerts to some 3,000,000 people. By the time this concert was recorded everything had become so familiar to the performers - instrumentalists and dancers, that the whole event progresses with all the natural ease of breathing.

The track list contains 20 of her most popular hits as well as one bonus and features her regular band who perform with totally slick professionalism as one would expect. The three dancers complement Tina with dancing of great precision. Tina herself, is the ball of energy that she always is, with a tremendous ability to communicate through her songs and with her rapturous audience.

The recording is in 4:3 visual format but is clear and captures the excitement and immediacy of the event. The sound is presented in DD 5.1 and stereo. This is cut at a slightly lower level than usual so the volume needs turning up to compensate and to add body to a slightly bass-light recording.

As a compilation of a considerable number of Tins's most popular hits performed at white heat this disc will be hard to beat. I would therefore expect it to be much appreciated by anyone who warms to the Tina Turner phenomenon and would suggest that this is a good 4 stars worth even allowing for the slight sound reservations as above.

This is Tina from 1996 and she shows how she could blow anyone from the stage in what is my favourite live DVD of her's. My favourite peformances are 'Addicted To Love', 'River Deep Mountain High' and 'Goldeneye'. Tina fans will be very impressed.
