Format: DVD
This DVD contains concert footage from a 2002 gig in the USA and a short live segment from 1973 shot in the BBC Old Grey Whistle Test studio in London (where is the rest of this footage guys?). This 1973 clip, though not very long, is for me by far the best bit of the disc showing the band on form and in good humour - and the sound quality is first rate - as you'd expect from BBC. Although it really is good to see Thijs van Leer still out there and doing the old stuff, this time with a new younger band (including his step son in the line up) the performance is good but a little lack-lustre next to the 1973 footage. Modern sound and lighting do nothing but highlight the absence of the style and flair of the original players. The DVD is recommended to all Focus fans though as there's precious little video of this great band around - and, after all, Thijs really can play his organ!

I've been a Focus fan since '72 and wass delighted that the band had re-formed, in spite of the fact that Thijs Van Leer is the only surviving member of the original line-up. The band play all the old favourites such as Sylvia, Hocus Pocus, Focus II, Eruption etc. along with only one track from their very good new album "Focus 8". As a bonus, there's a short bit of footage from '72 featuring the original Van Leer, Akkerman, Ruiter, Van der Linden line-up. I played this DVD to some of my younger friends and they all liked it very much and made me play some of the other earlier stuff. A good DVD for old fans and new alike.

Format: DVD
It was with some trepidation that I bought this DVD knowing that Jan Akerman was not longer of the band. I was however pleasantly surprised at the guitar playing of Jan Dumee. In fact, he has stuck faithfully to those carefully crafted guitar melodies of Jan Akkerman. If fact, if you closed your eyes one would be hard pressed to know it wasn't Akkerman playing. Dumee appears to have carefully studied Akkerman's unique riffing style and seamlessly incorporates it into his few own brief solos. The tone of Dumee's guitar is at times a little thinner than Akkerman's tone(the former doesn't play a Gibson Les Paul). Dumme's playing really cannot be faulted in anyway (except for one note which he shouldn't have bended).
The choice of songs on this DVD are also great. I wish however they had included some tracks from the album "Ship of Dreams" such as "Glider", "Spoke to the Lord Creator" or "Crackers". I also wish they had included from the album "Mother Focus" the song "No Hang-ups".
There is some footage of the orignal 1973 band, but I would have prefered to have heard something other than the old standbye "Hocus Pocus" .
In summary, this DVD is a must have for any Focus fan since it is fantastic playing and presently is the only focus footage available.

they are good and rocking and even if its not the group we used to hear in the 70's its still one of the best music ever heard in the rock scene.Focus are doing all the well known songs from the past and even today it sounds fresh enough to consider buying it.
