5.0 out of 5 stars A BBQ that never gets rained off 14 Jun 2010

Having seen this band play at Steamin Blues on a number of occasions and being a huge fan of Miller Anderson since his Keef Hartley Band days, I wondered if this CD would capture the excitement of their live performances. It most certainly did and is a testament to the raw power and musical vituosity of all of the performers who are legends in their own right. A wonderful, vibrant addition to the world of blues.

5.0 out of 5 stars stone the crows (well sort of) 4 Sep 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a wonderful album with a bunch of old hands playing all they are worth - all the band are top notch despite their ancientness (well, perhaps because) - the nice thing is how good they are at ensemble playing - even though each in their own right is a master musician - i mean you can hear colin hodgkinson's righteous bass on It Never Rains but it Purs, and rthen he unleashes his old back door genious on San Francisco Bay and Walkin blues - and Maggie Bell does some great solul blues/ ranty stuff on I ust wanna make love to you, then some super cool old classic delta bues on Penecillin, but then does harmony when Miller Anderson takes over on lead vocal (and some superb guitar playing)

This is very fine album - not too intrusive audience sounds and a good mix...if you like this sort of classic british blues, then its for you, especially if you saw any of the constituent memers 1960s/70s great moments - it isn't just a memory - they are as good as ever

5.0 out of 5 stars A stonker 17 Aug 2010
Format:Audio CD
I saw this band at the Fringe by the Sea in North Berwick (Scotland). The only change was that they had Dave Kelly on slide as well. A superb set of joyous music. They play for love and they can play. Colin Hodgkinson is awesome as ever - solo bass guitar and vocals.

This album really captures the band - this is what they sound like. There are few rough edges and their musicianship shines out.

Quality.

By HAYLING BOOK & MUSIC VENUE (HBMV) TOP 500 REVIEWER

If you love the blues, then there is little to stop you buying this album. Here we have a group of VERY seasoned musicians performing a selection of original material and covers to an enthusiastic and appreciative Glasgow audience. The recording is great, the atmosphere terrific and the musicianship...well, as you would expect - top notch. Maggie can still belt them out after all these years.

3.0 out of 5 stars British blues 19 Jun 2012

Worth a listen, but has lost some of its blues intensity. Maybe due to the recording at a live show.
