5.0 out of 5 stars Good to hear Steve in his later heydays live, 23 Sep 2001

That fabulous late lamented voice, not to mention one of the most powerful lead guitarists ever. I well remember his singing and playing during the eighties, with the Packet of Three and various other combinations with which he went on the road playing clubs and pubs. One of the best memories of all was the night in the Five Bells in Northampton when he first encountered Simon 'Honeyboy' Hickling, who was doing the support act that night with his own band, the DT's. Steve was so taken with their sound that he came out on stage and joined them for a majical set - the only time I can remember him singing without his guitar round his neck. That was the beginning of many gigs and several tours with Simon who appears on this album live in Germany. It's not the best sound balance you've ever heard, which is why I dropped a star in my rating of it but the live atmosphere and sheer power of Steve's performance comes over well enough to raise a hair or two on the back of the neck and to remind this fan at least just what an amazing voice, guitarist and personality we lost that sad night when Steve Marriott's home burned down. They don't make bluesmen like him any more.

On second thoughts, it's still good enough for five stars, never mind the sound balance! Thank you, Castle Music, for putting it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bluesy and ballsy, 5 May 2003

If you've come this far you're obviously someone who recognises
Steve Marriot as one of THE voices of rock, blues and soul music. This disc showcases a particularly sweaty night in Germany in 1985.The recording itself is a little booming but that only adds to the authenticity of this release. The voice is in fine form with Somekind of Wonderful,All or Nothing and Tin Soldier being standouts.Steve's guitar work is great. At times understated genius, elsewhere loud, raucous and totally rockin'out. But it's his voice that really shines. That whiskey soaked, soulman voice that never really got the recognition it deserved. If you like your music meaty, beefy, big and bouncy give this one a go.Heavy, blues rock done by a master.
