Product Description

Recorded in 1992 and billed as a homecoming concert,Magnum took to the stage at Birmingham Town Hall to perform in front of a sell-out crowd. What followed was Magnum at their very best, treating the audience to what was essentially a greatest hits show. Featuring original core members Bob Catley and Tony Clarkin, this double vinyl release is a superb collector's edition for all fans of classic rock music!

... the big question is how legit it is!,i bought it in good faith,it says previously unreleased but tracks 1-11 have been issued before as a 'live' video, while further reading of other CD reviews, specifically 'Live On Air' they have been taken from the same source as the video(with poor sound quality, according to the reviews).

However, neither had the complete 15 tracks and to my ears this is a decent live recording, the occasional poor vocal here and there,as most live discs have,

Packaging is minimal, digipack ,no booklet, sound quality pretty good and its a decent listen, the band are on form and the crowd well up for it,i'm happy with the purchase, although i will be disappointed if i've been allowed to purchase something dodgy via a legit outlet,i hope not,

Magnum fans will make their own choices wether to buy or not.

Many years ago, I purchased Kingdom Of Madness on the recommendation of a mate and was certainly taken by the prog.pomp served up by the band upon that (vinyl) disc. Resultant, I went off and purchased Magnum II, but that was nowhere near as bright and clear with the result that that was the last album of the band that I purchased!
However, among my recommendations recently was LIVE FROM BIRMINGHAM a show recorded from back in '92 at the Town Hall and included was Kingdom Of Madness, so for the sake of a fiver, I thought I might as well give it a listen and went ahead with the purchase.....and regretting it? Not on your life.......this is one helluva rocking album showing the band off at the height of their powers making the most of the 78 plus minutes of running time including All England's Eyes, Vigilante, Kingdom Of Madness (but not quite the version I remember), the beautiful Les Morts Dansant and the epic 10 minutes (almost) of How Far Jerusalem - Catley and Clarkin are having a veritable ball!
As I keep saying, I love live music, and albums such as this are the next best thing - well recorded and just alive with energy, power and a band at home (in more ways than one) with it's music and audience.
Well worth the outlay if you like gutsy prog rock with a melodic touch.

This excellent concert from 1992 in Birmingham has been well covered already on two DVDs (Magnum Live Legends and Magnum Live at Birmingham) However, this CD has an extended playing list, with 4 extra tracks - Midnight, The Last Dance, Sacred Hour and When the World Comes Down.

On Christmas Day and We Wish You A Merry Christmas are additional tracks only on the Legends DVD. This means the serious collector will want to have all three for completion.

Sound quality is crisp and captures Magnum at the peak of their powers.

this seems to be a short version of the cd stronghold / the last dance and as such is not a good intro to the band live
