The best of the best lineup of the best heavy rock band ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Live in Denmark '72: Kb Hallen Copenhagen 01/03/1972 (Audio CD)
The early 1970s have taken on legendary status for one of the original pioneers of heavy rock. Many people will point you in the Direction of Made in Japan, one of the greatest selling live albums of all time. This, on the other hand, was recently discovered deep within the archives, and has been remastered from the original tapes to give what can only be described as a 5 star performance. With a setlist almost identical to that of Made in Japan, you could be sceptical about the amount of new content. However, I cannot believe how fresh it sounds in comparison. Gillan is on top form, especially in a brilliant "Lucille" for the encore. Blackmore is as destructive as usual, you can imagine the fretboard being wrecked with some ferocity! This is Deep Purple Mk II at their very very best. Unfortunately it will probably only get aired by people wanting to add to their already vast collection, which is a shame! Spread the word people!

What a great Live album,

Yes 'Made in Japan' is great but in my opinion this is Better!!! Gillan's Voice is better for a start. Lord and Blackmore are as usual incredable with Paice beating the hell out of his drum kit. I also think that Roger Glover's bass sound on this is better as well. The set list is very similar to 'Made in Japan'.
Although I am comparing this to 'Made in Japan' as the bench mark it should really be the other way round. I own both and in comparison to 'Black night in Denmark 72' I found 'Made in Japan' slightly dissapointing. So to round off if in doubt buy this you won't be dissapointed.

This concert was my first ever(Lived in Denmark then).I somehow managed to drag my mom along or I would not have seen or heard this.It was truly a brilliant show and our ears were ringing for a week after. This recording is a bootleg of sorts and therefore not up to the same standard of Made In Japan, which must be one of the top 5 metal live recordings ever. This is a recording of the first or second time they played Machine Head live .The trax are somewhat different than they would be in Japan, but the quality of this recording sounds like a boot, but performance is top notch. So if you know Made in Japan note for note like I do,I welcome the different versions.

Greatest Live Band,

This one is more for fans only, it is part of a collection of official bootlegs released by the DPAS.This performance was also released years ago on VHS as "Scandinavian Nights"(not the same show or year as the "Scandivian Nights "cd).So the sound is real good for a Bootleg, but (let say)medium for an official-there is no comparaison with Made In Japan, but still the performance is great-check out "Strange Kind of Woman" or "Space Truckin'" and it is one of the rare occasion to hear "Fireball" live by Mark 2.If you're a DP fan you MUST have it and check the DPAS selection of Bootlegs via the "Highway Star"web site for more Live Purple.Digipack with original Bootleg cover and new liner notes. Deep Purple IS the greatest LIVE BAND!!!! |
