Biography

“Pretty,” affirms Deftones singer and guitarist Chino Moreno when discussing their new full-length studio album, Diamond Eyes. “We’re not afraid to be pretty.” It’s an adjective most riff-heavy groups might avoid, but then, Deftones have never been your average hard rock band.
As kids, the Sacramento fivesome cut its teeth on Anthrax and The Smiths, ... Read more in Amazon's Deftones Store

Live, is an EP that was released by the Sacramento based rockers, Deftones, in the spring of 1998. The EP is a compilation of the two separate CD editions that were released for the single, My Own Summer (Shove it), which was taken from the 1997 album, Around the Fur. Live contains the aforementioned single as well as six tracks that were recorded live at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, on October 13, 1997. The EP has an approximate running time of 32 minutes.

This is a must have recording for fans of the 1995 Deftones album, Adrenaline. The recording has an exceptionally warm quality that has beautifully captured the performance and enables the listener to clearly envisage and experience the immense energy that must have been surging through the crowd during that specific point in time. The track selection is extremely unique as these are compositions that are less likely to appear within the current and future sets of these now experienced performers due to their significantly larger repertoire.

As this EP often appears to carry an expensive price tag due to its current lack of availability outside of the US, it is probably best suited to devoted fans as opposed to those who are only curious about the creative collective who recorded it over a decade ago.

incredibly heavy yet melodic tracks taken from arguably the finest deftones cd to date, this cd is something special. Stand out tracks include root and lifter, buy it, you wont be dissapointed!

Okay, so anyone who knows about the deftones will realise that the tracks on this are pretty poor ones anyway ( My own summer <studio version>, Root, Nosebleed, Lifter, Lotion, Fireal and Bored). More or less I can't see who this will appeal to as if you've got Adrenaline you'll already have most of the tracks and if you haven't then Adrenaline would be much more worth buying. It does have its highlights though, culminating in Chino stopping to find a little boy's shoe and then declaring him the hero of the evening. Basically if the songs on this are some of your favourites (eg, Root, Lifter, Bored etc) then maybe consider getting it but if like me you think a lot of them are average then buy something else: even the hardcore fans won't love it

Not really for the layperson 25 Mar. 2003
By wellwellwell - Published on Amazon.com

This Deftones live release is your best chance to hear some of band's best songs live, without actually seeing them in concert. I'm not too sure why the Deftones included the studio track "My Own Summer (Shove It)" on this CD; maybe to help promote it. All these songs, except for "Lotion" (which is on Around The Fur), are featured on their widely held debut Adrenaline. All the live versions recorded here are awesome and portray the sound of the Deftones very well. This is a definite must-have for any Deftones fanatic, but to the amateur fan there's not much to go on. I don't think I'm alone when I say that only six songs doesn't cut it. I could've used a few more; perhaps a couple more from Around The Fur to balance the weight a bit. Nevertheless, one must take the bad with good. The best live song hear is probably "Bored". Not just for the music, but because Chino stops in the middle and helps a kid find his shoe. The lone ATF song is certainly one of the best. It's also good to hear "Fireal / Swords" live as it was somewhat bizarre on Adrenaline. "Root", "Nosebleed" and "Lifter" are all amazing live tracks, and they round off the CD very nicely. If you are a huge Deftones fan and already own all their studio records then this is a certain necessity for your collection. But if you are a coming-of-age Deftones fan, I recommend you start with either Adrenaline or Around The Fur before this live album. You'll get more for your money with a couple more songs.

Great live set from Sacramento's best. 22 Dec. 2000

Deftones are probably one of the best and most energetic live bands out there, it's only natural that they put out a live compilation. This CD does not disappoint, unlike some reviewers claim. It is actually REALLY good.
Most of the songs on here are from 'Adrenaline' except the studio version of "My Own Summer" and the live version of "Lotion," which is one of my favorite Deftones songs. Highlights of this CD include the end of 'Bored' where a kid in the audience loses his shoe and Chino stops to help him find it. "Root" and "Lifter" are the best performed on here, and don't lose their original energy.
If you enjoyed all the studio albums put out by the Deftones, buy this. It took me a while to get it, cuz I wasn't really sure, but I'm glad I did.

Less for more 31 May 2001

This is the exact same thing as the Live album, only five dollers more, and without My Own Summer. The live tracks are good, but why spend five dollars more?

Just as good as a real concert 8 April 2001
By Infinity2 - Published on Amazon.com

I saw the Deftones on the Back to School tour, and while they put on a great live show, I was a bit disappointed because they only played two songs from Adrenaline. I got this CD hoping to hear live versions of some of my favorite Adrenaline songs, and must say this does not disappoint. Nosebleed sounds even more aggressive and fast than it did in the studio, while Chino puts more effort into Lifter. On Adrenaline, Fireal sounded a bit spooky, but this version scares my pants off. This album is not one to be missed, and is even more important as the Deftones don't play most of these songs live anymore.
