As an AmazonUS reviewer commented somewhere: '...EVERY live performance of Miles was unique'. And so they were; not least of all during this particularly prodigious phase of his career. What is more likely a the bone of contention amongst reviewers is the actual quality of the recording; and I have say that for me Copenhagen falls noticeably short of other live performances with this legendary line-up, namely 'Miles in Berlin' (1964), 'Live at the Plugged Nickel' (1965), 'The Bootleg Series 1967' and 'Winter in Europe' (1967). On the other hand it's probably a tad better than 'Live at the Oriental Theatre 1966' - see my 4 star review if you're curious! If you're not comfortable with lowering the recording benchmark set by the above list, then tread carefully. Other than that....it's the great, trailblazing MDQ in every way.

This wonderful concert was recorded by Danish Radio in Copenhagen on October 4, 1964 a few days after the album 'Miles in Berlin'(COLUMBIA).
The stellar rhythm section of Herbie Hancock(piano); Ron Carter(bass) & Tony Williams(drums) had been together for six months but tenorist Wayne Shorter had just left Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers to join the trumpeter's quintet.
The group create inspired performances of 'Autumn Leaves', 'So What', 'Stella By Starlight', 'Walkin'', 'All of You' & 'Joshua'.
With over an hour of great music, 'Live in Copenhagen 1964' is an excellent early example of this famous quintet and essential for all Miles Davis fans or anyone who appreciates adventurous modern jazz.

Acoustic & Electrifying!!! 10 Jan 2013

This live performance of Miles Davis Quintet was recorded on October 4, 1964 in KB Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark. This is the second greatest Miles Davis Quintet with Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter. The band had just been recently formed. Performances are dynamic, electrifying and fresh with a lot of solos. Recording sound is good and it is MONO.
The program:
1. Autumn Leaves 11:03
2. So What 11:15
3. Stella By Starlight 13:24
4. Walkin' 9:03
5. All Of You 12:41
6. Joshua / The Theme 8:28

Total Time: 65:56
I would recommend this CD to any Miles Davis fans!

No for my taste 8 Jun 2014

You get not much for the price you paid. The recording is really bad, distorted and sometimes unbearable...the drums seems to be tin cans and the bass drum a cardboard box...only 'Stella by Starlight' has a better sound (different sound recordist?) I'll skip this one for sure. There is a bunch of good Miles recordings out there and cheaper than this one .

disappointing 10 Mar 2013

I didn't expect this to be great, but I love this period of Miles' career, so I was excited to get a live set from 1964. Well, the recording is poor, and the performance seems very rushed and uninspired. The cover design is nice -- that's the best thing I can say about it. Don't bother unless you have to have all the Miles you can get.
