When Sting originally announced that he was going to tour with a full fifty piece orchestra and perform his best known songs I was a little sceptical. How could that possibly work? Well, five months in, it is apparent just how wrong I was to harbour any doubts. The 'Symphonicity' shows have been spectacular successes since the tour launched in Vancouver earlier this year and have since garnered glowing accolades in the media. When I attended several of the shows, I was totally blown away by the whole experience and quickly realised how short-sighted my initial scepticism had been.

'Live in Berlin' is produced by Jim Gable and Ann Kim who have been responsible for previous Sting releases such as 'A Winter's Night... Live from Durham Cathedral', 'The Journey and the Labyrinth', 'Inside The Songs of Sacred Love', and '...All This Time' as well as 'The Police: Certifiable'. They have successfully captured the feel of the 'Symphonicity' concerts and while there are obvious limitations to the presentation of a show of this size given the sheer number of musicians on stage, the clever use of three large light boxes above the stage - which occasionally provide live and video footage - light the show superbly and provide subtle, tasteful lighting throughout the concert. The DVD also includes Sting's spoken introductions to several songs, where he explains the inspiration behind a song or offers some other biographical background, and while this would be distracting in a faster paced rock concert, here it works well.

The highlights are numerous. Take for example, the unmistakable sound of special guest Branford Marsalis who adds his saxophone to 'Englishman in New York', 'Mad About You' and 'Desert Rose'.

This album is excellent. The chance to rearrange Sting's well known, and loved, repertoire of songs works so well. I equate what he has done to the same concept used by Eric Clapton, when he rethought his music to create the Unplugged album (and DVD).

Sting's primary backing singer, Jo Lawry, is awesome. She can match Sting's voice, style and phrasing to perfection. The rapport between them is very evident.

I will enjoy this concert for as long as I can think ahead in my life.

The concert, that was recorded for this DVD-release was a stunning concert with Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Conducted by a sometimes funny jumping Steven Mercurio Sting performed "Roxanne", Next To You", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" and "Every Breath You Take" and songs from his solo carrier: "Englishman In New York", "Fragile", "Russians" (and he told us what he did, when he composed Russians in New York back in the 80s - he watched Russian Television Weekend broadcast), "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", "Fields Of Gold", and of course the great "Desert Rose". So if this Bluray will be out, it will be a must have for every Sting follower.

Excellent concert and well filmed. The sound is amazing and love the orchestrated versions of all the songs that were chosen for this concert. I was lucky enough to attend two of his shows, one being at the Roya Albert Hall and the orchestra sounded even better on this Blu Ray then at the concerts I attended. It's a shame Fields of Gold are not on the Blu Ray as they are on the CD.

Excellent production, great tunes(if you like sting) and great on Blu ray. Quite a different set than with just his band as he has the orchestra here but works very well in my view and glad I have it in my collection.

The sound quality is fantastic, and the general quality of the filming is excellent. A proper production not some sort of cheap video that you sometimes get.
