Biography

Jeff Beck isn’t your typical guitar legend. His goal, in fact, is to make you forget that he plays guitar.

“I don’t understand why some people will only accept a guitar if it has an instantly recognizable guitar sound,” says Beck. “Finding ways to use the same guitar people have been using for 50 years to make sounds that no one has heard before is truly ... Read more in Amazon's Jeff Beck Store

Arguably the greatest rock guitarist England has produced this is an excellent collection of tunes from the awesome Beck canon, played live, hence true to the original studio recordings but with twists that live performance and interpretation provide. Beck's pitch-perfect technical mastery of the guitar augmented with the emotion and melody of his playing style is truly awe-inspiring. Also one of those rare artists that can take a cover to another level, or different direction, to bring new light to familiar tunes. Having covered artists like Curtis Mayfield and Stevie Wonder with renewed vigour here he nails a version the The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" bringing a fresh sound to a classic so familiar to us all. Mastery and modesty in equal measure.

This CD will prove to anybody who still doesn't know why Jeff Beck is rock's most inventive guitarist alive. You can hear shrieks of delight in the audience and jaws dropping as Jeff coaxes extraordinary music and sounds out of his Strat. Gorgeous tone as well, Jimi would like this. Magnificent, buy now.

This sterling and spellbinding CD was recorded two years after 9-11-01 in New York City. The incomparable Jeff Beck masters jazz, blues, hard rock, techno and the Beatles "A Day In The Life" amid this incredible instrumental masterpiece. Rolling Stone Magazine saw this concert and their renowned reporter David Fricke stated that is was peerless perfection. Jeff Beck belies age and he is better than ever. This live concert CD is replete with dynamic all instrumental tracks including "Roy's Toy", "Psycho Sam," a riveting Freeway Jam,", the jazzy "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," the blistering "Scatterbrain," the ethereal "Angel," the emotional "Where Were You," the manic closer "My Thing," and the classic "People Get Ready." In September 2006 I saw Jeff Beck play at the Chicago Theatre and he literally mesmerized and enthralled the entire audience. Jeff Beck is cooler than cool. A Guitar God, A Hot Rod Mechanic, A Gardener, A Vegetarian and a musical icon who avoids publicity. His eclecticism, creativity, and fretboard virtuosity combine to make him a paramount live concert guitarist ! England must embrace their native son. Why ! He's the worlds greatest living guitarist. Don't ask me. Brian May, Jimmy Page and David Gilmour have said so! Enough said !

Apparently recorded the day before the Twin Towers devastation, this is a must have for any Jeff Beck fan. The energy, tenderness, quality, deference to his older and newer fans (by selection of of music for the set) and sheer brilliance of Jeff Beck's playing ability, ably backed abetted by Bozzio and Hymas, are showcased to perfection. With the range of material covered, both in terms of recording timespan and musical styles, this would be a perfect introduction album for anyone wishing to dip their toes into the realms of, quite honestly, the greatest living guitarist. Heartily recommended.
