I saw Benoit Viellefon & His Orchestra at the Candlelight Club and thought that they were amazing live. This album is of Benoit and his Hot Club (obviously in homage to Django and the original Hot Club etc). This album isn't however some sort of 'hip' parody or copycat of the original, but is superb music played with honesty and integrity and most importantly with passion. Recorded live in 2012 at the Quecumbar and using only condenser microphones, Benoit and the Hot Club capture an authentic atmosphere that is sorely missing with many so called 'live' recordings these days. The songs themselves are a mixture of covers and originals including 'My dog is a gypsy' and the fantastic 'After you've gone'. All in all you get 16 tracks and over 70 minutes of quality music played with style and panache. Both the band and its audience sound like they are having a great time and that after all, is what it is all about. The cd comes in a very stylish gatefold digipack which is great quality in itself. A lot of thought and care has gone into making this something special. Considering that the cd is limited to only 500 copies and that they are usually sold at gigs or through his website; I would not only recommend getting your hands on one, but buying one QUICKLY...!!! It is however available to download, so if the 500 sell out you needn't be without(but the packaging is great.)

I was at the Quecumbar when this was recorded and was blown away. I have been waiting impatiently ever since for the recording to be released. Benoit and his band have a fantastic energy that persists throughout the album and their delivery is flawless. This is one of those albums for which you can't help smiling all the way through and which leaves you with a fixed grin for a long time afterwards. Highly recommended. And if you get the chance, go see him play too.

This is probably my favourite album of the last year - it has lots of classic tunes and new songs which I also love. I have also seen this band live in London and they were amazing, great for dancing and for listening to. All-in-all a great live session on this CD which I enjoyed very much! Thankyou Benoit!
