THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE VINYL EDITION (4LP BOX).

THE MUSIC.
If you love Queen, this is possibly one of their finest hours. It's 1974 so they're playing music from the first two albums (March concert, LPs 1&2), as well as introducing songs from Sheer Heart Attack (November concert, LPs 3&4), and a few covers.
The music is thunderous, relentless and breathtaking. By this time the band was already an extremely well-oiled unit, they're firing on all cylinders and they know it (re: Freddy Mercury calling a halt to Ogre Battle after the first verse and asking the audience "What do you think of the show so far?"...). They're possibly rocking harder than on the studio albums. In short, if you love Queen, you'll love this.

SOUND / MASTERING
The sound is quite satisfying for a live recording of this period. There's not a huge stereo separation but the sound is detailed, full, and with great dynamics. Credits to the vinyl edition read: "half speed vinyl mastering by Miles Showell ad Abbey Road Studios" (while mastering of original tapes was made, as per the CD version, at Metropolis Mastering).
The vinyl sounds wonderful, possibly even a bit warmer and fuller than the CD version I had the chance to compare it to.

ARTWORK
The four LPs are housed in a sturdy box; each disc housed in a sleeve with a picture of a band member and an inner sleeve with pictures and liner notes not included in the standard 2CD version (which as far as liner notes are concerned features just the credits).

FREE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
In the LP box there's a card for the digital download of the entire album in mp3 files.

All considered, a must for any Queen fan, in my opinion. The music, the sound and the packaging are all equally beautiful. A high quality live document for a great band.

.... in the early 70's Queen were a consumate heavy rock band and were the equal of most around, history shows that the band moved on,so we should cherish this small nugget,a timepiece from the heavy rock days,it quite glorious, had it been released in the 70's it would be as revered as many other classic 70's live albums.

2 superb recordings from 1974,the main disc, for me, is disc 1 concentrating on the ist 2 albums, listen to Brian Mays guitar ,that tone, that sound accompanied by the unheralded,at the time, rythmn section, Deacon & Taylor, underpinning the guitar, while Freddie does his thing, slightly restrained compared to future years. Magnificent versions of 'Father To Son' 'Ogre Battle','Great King Rat & 'Liar',i could go on,its excellent.

I could have died happy with that, disc 2 is a welcome bonus... Late '74 with,'Now Im Here ' continuing the rock theme while '....Leroy Brown'. indicating future directions.

Both discs include the dreaded rock n roll cover versions although they're done with gusto and actually enjoyable.

Sound quality is excellent given its 40 yrs old,,the deluxe edition comes in digi pak with excellent booklet,a truly superb release

Queen Live 4 LP box set Awesome is an understatement, I have followed Queen from the start, I was 11 at the time, I had the pleasure of seeing them perform in 77 at Earls Court and they blew me away, I later saw them play and although still great performances, their early material was always their best for me, by the 80s they had become huge global stars but had lost some of what I loved about them. Anyhow back to this LP set and If like me you're a fan ot the early Queen this is a must have, as others have said the sound quality is sublime, the Nov show is just staggeringly good I would go as far as to say it is the best live recording I think I have ever heard and I dont say that lightly. The March show is still very good but loses some of the dynamics, the Nov show also show Queen really hitting their stride. 10 stars would be more accurate.

Surprisingly good sound, except sometime for some rather tinny piano, a tight, hungry band, superb singing and musicianship throughout. A wonderful reminder of how good Queen could be, and often were.

Clearly a purchase for the fan rather than the casual listener, but if you like the early stuff, this is superb. The second concert (the one in the standard edition) in particular captures the band on the cusp of real stardom, and they sound really pleased about it. The fact they're playing material from three albums by this point gives the show depth and variety.

An outstanding live performance of their first three albums. It showed they were heading for stardom even before Bohemian Rhapsody was released a year later.Queen have always been renowned for their live tours and crowd pulling shows around the world. This early performance at the Rainbow Theatre was probably the start of the big time for Queen.Great sound, great live show!! Well worth adding to any live music lover's collection!
