5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute brilliance! 27 Aug 2010
Verified Purchase
My husband and I just cant stop watching this dvd - it has to be one of our favourites, ranking alongside Page and Plant's No Quarter and Nirvana unplugged. Absolutely brilliant performance from Seth and the band- they really give their all and the Minack is a wonderfully atmospheric setting. Camera work is good and so is the sound - we crank the volume up so the floor is shaking and it still sounds great. Urge you to buy this fab dvd from a very underrated set of musicians - they deserve to be much bigger than they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait! 28 Dec 2009
Verified Purchase
Having waited patiently for this first DVD from Seth we weren't disappointed. Having seen the terrible camera work and editing of the video clips on his web site we were more than a little worried about what we were going to see on the concert recording. However we need not have been concerned. From the first few moments it was apparent that the crew responsible for the recording were well up to the task. Camera operators who have the craft befitting such a prestigious location complemented by sympathetic editing and quality audio engineering results in a wonderfully entertaining concert. Instead of the trendy snap zooming, out of focus shots and waving pans while the person holding the camera searches for the subject, we are treated to a seamless experience that never once gets in the way of our enjoyment. The atmosphere of the Minack Theatre comes across so well that the cliche "it was just like being there" is hard to avoid! The enthusiasm and brilliant musianship of Seth and his colleagues is plain for all to see and in spite of the cold as the evening progresses the music keeps everyone warm.
In summary, an excellent thoroughly enjoyable concert recording that we can wholehartedly recommend to all Seth Lakeman fans. One that will be watched over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seth Rocked the Place! 11 Dec 2009
Verified Purchase
The Minack ( means A Rocky Place), an unusual, eerie setting for a concert but its a fantastic place. The acoustics are great and the backdrop is breathtaking. The eeriness is that one minute it can be sunny and whilst you are watching the show night descends without you being aware and when you look up its just well black, it really is a great setting. I unfortunately procrastinated and missed out in getting a ticket to this show though I have seen a number of other show there.
The DVD is a great tour of Seth's music including tracks from his four albums together with a track I have not heard before, Hearts and Minds" . I really love the vibrancy and energy that these guys put into their playing. I remember both Sean and Seth in their Equation days seeing them in Plymouth way back in `98 and remarked then on the incredible manner in how they played. They are both great craftsmen. With Ben and Simon the sound they create has a great quality to it and it transcends well on this DVD, listening its like being at the concert. The picture quality of the concert is exceptional together with panoramic seascapes of the surrounding area. I loved the sound of the sea crashing through the living room when I first put the DVD on, its an amazing sound and you just want to have the ability to apparate there.
This live DVD is a brilliant concert. Seth has a real buzz in playing to the crowd who pluck up the courage part way through to join him on centre stage and support and encourage him. If you enjoy his music this DVD will be a wise purchase. Its stonkingly good and I love it. Buy it, invite the neighbours in, play through surround sound, breath the music and have a great hoe-it-down - you will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live at the Minnack... what a joy! 8 Jan 2010
Seth Lakeman's Live at the Minnack is a breathtaking DVD of his concert held in this totally unique venue. Set in an area of outstanding beauty in Cornwall,
you see Seth at his best, playing and singing his heart out as the sun sets on the sea in the background. He plays all his best songs and the
musicians who join him are all at the top of their game, too. It's fascinating to watch this highly talented young man move into his inner creative space
and if you watch carefully you can see that Seth is so absorbed in his story-telling that he goes into a trance at times. He's one of the world's true musical
gems and you don't want to miss it. If you couldn't be there in person, this is the next best thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seth Live At Last! 8 Dec 2009

The first Seth Lakeman Live DVD is finally here and was well worth waiting for! Seth and the boys play a cracking set and give it all they've got - as one would expect given that he's on home turf and in a spectacular location too! The Storm is an unusual set opener but how appropriate given the roaring surf behind them at the Minack. Pretty much all the fave's are here with a stomping performance of Kitty Jay and new track Hearts and Minds holds up well in the auspicious company, boding well for the next album. This DVD is a must for all Seth lakeman fans - you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars For new and dedicated fans alike! 12 Dec 2009
By Read Me
For anyone who has seen Seth Lakeman live then you already know that this is going to be great. If you've never quite managed to see him (how?!) but you like the albums or you've heard a few songs then this would be a good addition to your collection.
Filmed at the cliff-side Minack Theatre in Cornwall the live gig is about one and a half hours long and features a good mix of Seth's albums. Stand out tracks are the brilliant Kitty Jay, Blood Upon the Copper and Race To Be King. If you haven't seen Seth live before then the foot stomping may take you by surprise but its all part of the show! Its an interesting show as it starts in daylight and finishes in darkness, the audience start off huddled in their blankets sitting down then finish dancing around the stage (as they should).
Production wise essentially you are just getting a film of a live gig, there aren't any fancy arty shots of Cornwall and the extras are a little bleak. There is a very quick making of feature (I've seen longer interviews on youtube) and two of Seth's videos which are good.
Overall if you like Seth's music then buy it - its as close as you can get to having a gig in your living room. If you're not really a fan but you're willing to try something new then this might be the thing to convert you.
