5.0 out of 5 stars Thrice doing what they do best... 18 Dec 2009
Format:Audio CD
I had seen some viedos before i bought this item and i was blown away =) the sound is not that fake live sound that most bands have now on their live dvd, i never saw thrice live because unfortunatly i had the tiket to see then in London were i used to live before but i moved one week before the show to Portugal =/ anyway back to the dvd, most of it its songs from The Alchemy Index Volumes, i missed some of the old school songs and i think that they could put one or 2 songs from Identity Crises but im a long time fan so i think most of their fans now, dont even know that the 1st 2nd albuns were more agressive and fast that their latest ones, if YOU dont just check them out and you will be blown away its like time travel to another age of thrice completly diferent... Ok said that, the DVD have a good video and sound quality but its not over produced, what for me is awsome =)and if you are a thrice fan this is a must have =)

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for Thrice fans! 1 May 2011
Format:Audio CD
A great watch for all Thrice fans, I've only had the chance to see Thrice once at Reading Festival 2010 and have always wanted to see them play a full show. The dvd features some amazing performances of songs from Vheissu, Artist in the Ambulance and The Alchemy Index, from plus an insight into their own live performance and setup. Despite being before their most recent record Beggars I'd definately recommend this to fans especially to those who may not have had the chance to see Thrice play live before.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live DVDs I've ever seen... 10 Dec 2008
By Jeffrey Brummett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Thrice delivers TWENTY FIVE songs! I bought the newest Black Keys live dvd a week before this one and it only had 17 (which isn't bad either but the songs are allot shorter and quality is MUCH worse) for the same price (PLUS 2 CD of the whole set). Great quality, especially for a mid sized band in a smaller venue. I also disagree with the previous reviewer about the bonus interview. I thought the answers were very in depth and the questions where interesting and unique.
I consider this a terrific buy! Thrice is even better live..An amazing band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Thrice Fans 14 Dec 2008

Having been a long-time Thrice fan, and a big supporter of the evolution of their sound (starting with their punk-infused roots to their more mature layered synth rock of late) I really like this album.

I am typically not a fan of live albums at all, with their often horrible production value, all-too-often sub-par live band performance, and annoying audience noises interfering with the music.

Live at House of Blues does not suffer this same detriment, for the following reasons:

- Thrice is a superb live group, that captures the sound of their studio performances, while adding subtle differences in the recording that thankfully do not make it sound like a completely different song. Very tight performance by Thrice.

- Production value of the recording might as well be studio; great fidelity, and there is only one few-second segment that has any sort of unintended feedback.

- Audience is very into the music, singing along but never to the point where you hear the audience more than the band. It's sort of like a group backing vocal track, and it works well for this album.

I was fortunate enough to see Thrice during this particular tour (though I saw them at the Avalon in Hollywood, instead of this House of Blues show) and it was easily one of the top three most amazing shows I've ever been to. Thrice is a spectacular live band, and their latest shows were a testament to their maturity as live performers, with perfectly mixed audio and impeccably timed LED lighting that synced so amazingly with the music, one would think the sound and visual choreography were written at the same time.

I have the utmost respect for Thrice as a band, Dustin's unashamed faith that pervades the inspirational and moving lyrics in such allegorical ways, and their ability to impress me with their ever-evolving sound.

While it contains no unreleased songs, Live At The House Of Blues provides a good mix of new Alchemy-era tunes and old favorites for new fans looking to get a slice of Thrice, and long-time followers who are looking to complete their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for Thrice fans, and fans of music 1 Aug 2009
By J. Lam - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
First of all, if you've never heard this band before, give them a listen. Thrice is one of the few bands these days that produce a different sound from album to album. They're not one of those bands the make the same record. I've been a fan since the first time I heard them, and through time they became my favorite band. So when I first heard they were making a DVD i was extatic. This CD/DVD is full of awesome music, and captures the best Thrice show I've been to. The only problem I have with the DVD is that it's 80% Dustin. Don't ge me wrong, Dustin is amazing, but I was hoping for near-equal camera time for all band members. I wanted see more of Riley's drum solos, Ed's sick bass strumming, and Teppei's amazing guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its amazing 6 Jan 2009
By James M. Laudante - Published on Amazon.com

If you enjoy Thrice and have been listening to the since the beginning it is a must own DVD. Its 25 songs of both new and old songs, I have seen them live 4 times before and it has just as much energy and emotion as any other time. The best $16 I have spent in awhile, you get 2 CDs and an DVD for the price of one CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost what I was waiting for. 17 Dec 2008
By David J. Skillington - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The only thing that keeps this dvd from being perfect is the video editing. When there's back up singing or someone's instrument is standing out, the camera seems to always focus on Dustin. During the earth will shake you never really get to see the Bassist scream too much because it's always on the crowd or Dustin, which doesn't even make since. Besides that, the quality of the footage is nice and the set-list is near perfect, but you cannot complain with 25 songs. Highlights for me were:
-Firebreather
-Burn the Fleet
-Broken Lungs
-Silhouette
-For Miles
-The Earth Will Shake
-Trust

The interview does seem a little rushed and music videos would have been nice, but just the live concert is enough to satisfy me. This dvd shows what Thrice can do as a band as far as diversity and still be able to rock hard live while sounding amazing. I still give it 5 stars because it's Thrice playing 25 songs.
