Virtually all of Lissie's songs from this live show, both the originals and the covers, have a very confessional feel to them. Most of the songs are taken from her first full length CD, Catching a Tiger. As with that CD, Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire is fairly evenly divided between slower, singer/songwriter type ballads and more up tempo rockers. What differentiates these live versions from the original studio recordings is that they have more of a rocking edge to them, even the slower songs, primarily due to the strong lead guitar work of Eric Sullivan. Lissie definitely put a lot of energy into her singing and guitar playing at this concert, and her interactions with the audience were very spontaneous and down to earth. Overall, she comes across as a very talented and likeable young lady. What makes Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire an especially attractive offering is that it provides both an audio CD and DVD of the whole concert, which is not obvious from the product description on the website.
