5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all Jazz Fusion fans 28 Jan 2010
I already owned the SD version of this DVD and reviewed it previously on Amazon. On purchasing a new 1080 HD TV and Blu-Ray player this was my first choice Concert footage Blu-Ray to purchase. It's incredible....just like being at the concert. The SD version had already offered great 5.1 audio which gives the feel of being at the concert, the Blu-Ray makes you feel you are "on stage" with the band. I love the HD pictures. They've been kept simple, no complicated colour correction or Vis. FX, just camera output at high resolution. Consequently you can see the dust on Chick's keyboards if you care to look closely. A great record of this amazing band's short-lived re-unite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Picture & Sound Quality Simply Stunning 2 May 2011
Verified Purchase
I am not a big fan of this type of music, though I do have the bands albums from the 70's which are a bit hit and miss for me. My older brother is very much into this music, and having watched some of the Blu Ray at his house, I was very much tempted to buy it on the basis of the remarkable sound quality, to which he was just playing in standard DTS on his computer.

Having purchased it and playing it through my AV Equipment with its DTS HD Master Audio. I must say that it is by far the best sound quality I have come across so far put onto a Blu Ray Live Concert. The sound is totally stunning and so to is the picture quality top reference material all the way here.

The concert itself I find it very Avant-Garde with loads of AD-Lib making most of the material sound entirely nothing like the material which came off there studio albums in the first place, representing nothing like the title of the track they supposed to be playing. It can be very sporadic in parts, making the music itself sound more like a Jam rather than anything that was ever written down in the first place, if ever it was written down they certainly forgot it.

There is no doubt these guys are good musicians and the performance is very good making it very enjoyable to watch even if like myself your not particularly into this type of music, I would recommend it. It's worth the money for the sound quality alone, and I take my hat off to the sound engineers behind the 5.1 mix, it's stunning in panning and detail and truly captures the whole occasion of the live event.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good As It Gets 31 Oct 2013

I have just watched this again after having left it on the shelf for a while. I had forgotten how good it is.

Great selection of tracks, brilliantly played and excellent camera work. The only way this could be improved is by giving us even more music but there is plenty on this already. It is as close to being there as a live recording is going to get (until they release a 3D version perhaps).

5.0 out of 5 stars Age shall not weary them 19 Jan 2012
Let's deal with the product first. Yes the Bluray picture is crystal-clear, the sound extraordinary and the direction uncluttered, blah, blah, blah. However all the advanced technology in the world can not stop a turkey being a turkey. So it's indeed fortunate that Return to Forever are not turkeys. They are eagles, they soar, they swoop they produce a sound so tight you will be gasping for breath. And, And they are my age. I remember seeing them live at Exeter University nearly 40 years ago aged 17. In my mind I am convinced that RTF sound as good now as they did then. Damn it, Chick was nearly 70 when the gig was filmed. If you have ever listened to any of the early albums and wondered how they made such an incredible sound buy this and see for yourself.

A "must have" for all RTF fans. In my opinion, this DVD sets a new benchmark for performance and sound. A truly stunning example of BluRay technology combined with the best DTS HD soundtrack i have heard to date. A real Masterpiece!
