this dvd is a must for any fans of the artists here. i like most blues, and some jazz. i bought this dvd bcause i'm a huge clapton fan. the music is mostly instrumental(except going down slow, third degree, layla, everyday i have the blues)giving every member of the band a chance to solo. clapton delivers some amazing guitar work on this dvd cool rythems and stinging solos that we all know he's capable of when in the mood. he looks cool and relaxed as if he is just enjoying being part of the band. steve gadd does a solid job on drums as always. joe sample sounds smooth and slinky throughout never over playing, great stuff. marcus miller brings the funk to the sound of the group grooving away like a pro as always. david sanborn does some great solos here, but overplays a little on some tracks to my ear. the strongest tracks for me are the opening track full house wich really sets the mood. ruthie is a beautiful slow track mainly featuring eric. going down slow and shreveport stomp also shine.i have always stuck by eric clapton even when he has released disapointing pop style albums.this dvd like many other recent releases such as me and mr johnson and crossroads festival are a reminder of just what an amazing musician he is.buy this dvd you will love it if you have any interest in any of these artists.

This is a one-off recording of a one-off supergroup.

The band line-up is:

Steve Gadd - Drums

Marcus Miller - Bass/Bass Clarinet

Joe Sample - Keyboards

Eric Clapton - Guitar / Vocals

David Sanborn - Alto Sax

This is mostly instrumental, with only vocals by Clapton on a couple of tracks. As you would expect with a crack rhythm section like this the groove generated is fantastic and the opening track 'Full House' demonstrates this amply. Clapton had insecurities about playing with such a Jazz based group of musicians, however he more than holds his own against the prodigious talents of Sample, Miller and Sanborn (not to mention the drummers drummer Gadd).

The numbers performed are:

Full House

Groovin'

Ruthie

Snakes

Going Down Slow

The Peeper

In Case You Hadn't Noticed

Third Degree

First Song / Tango Blues

Put It Where You Want It

Shreveport Stomp

In A Sentimental Mood / Layla

Every Day I have the Blues

For this DVD think mid-period Crusaders, so if you like blues based Jazz/Rock you'll love this. Great Stuff.

A hidden gem from 1997 which I have only just discovered. My all time favourite artist Eric Clapton and four high quality musicians together at the Montreux Jazz Festival producing a great blend of Blues and Jazz featuring many tracks not normally associated with Eric. You could see they all really enjoyed playing together as did the audience.

The show is a little Bluesy, but all musicians are in excellent performance.

How could it be better for a guitar enthusiast and an excellent Xmas present. Snow held up it's arrival but it was here in time for Xmas. In fact Amazon was the only marketplace to get the purchases through in time for Xmas so well done them! Recommended.
