Second album from rockpile was a long time coming but great to have arrived. 16 live songs from the one show (hence warts n all sound}. You can hear the band had a great time playing some of the Lowe and Edmunds classics + just one tune from the seconds of pleasure lp (teacher, teacher). Crawling from the wreckage, girls talk, they call it rock. are highlights and a great sounding I hear you knocking. Its music to spill beer by so the odd blip on the sound quality does not spoil it for me.

Proceed with caution 27 Aug 2011

I so wanted to like this CD, having been a fan of Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe since way back, and with the set list containing all the hits, plus one of the few recorded versions of 'Teacher Teacher'. Alas, despite the obvious energy, the sound is poor and some of the playing and singing woefully flat (particularly on 'Teacher Teacher').

It's certainly not a 'must have' as certain reviewers have suggested, and my overwhelming feeling is that it's a bit of a cash-in.

Proceed with caution.

However Nick (Lowes) and Billy (Bremners) vocals are muffled (on the tracks they sing lead on)- maybe the festival sound engineer thought Dave (Edmunds) was the singer and the other two would just do backing vocals. The sound quality improves as the songs go along - presumably the engineer realises his error - but it does blight the one song each they were given. The music however is classy, full tilt rock played by a band with few peers. Flawed as it is on those two tracks I still give it 4 & half stars. Programme your CD player to play those tracks last and turn the volume up.
