5.0 out of 5 stars New "Live at Melkweg" from FB&C 21 Mar 2012
By N. Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The new "Live" FB&C CD arrived today...just finished listening to the entire album.
First take: I very much enjoyed it...and I'm sure as most FB albums go, the more ya listen the more ya like it.
On a couple songs FB's voice sounds nice and raspy/scratchy, which I dig..."Love Your Brain" & "Bullet" sound insane!!!
The band in whole sounds super solid, makes you want to go to a live show ASAP! (Come on Frank let's get some show dates posted!).

"So Hard To Make Things Out", "Holiday Song", "Nimrod's Son", all sound really, really good.

Enjoy, it's definitely worth the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars So very close, Frank! 15 April 2012

A great missed opportunity to show off Frank & The Catholics at the top of their game. I saw them in Stockholm during this tour and was blown away. This CD is far from bad, and half of it consists of excellent versions of Pixies songs, but why Frank picked inferior stuff like The Black Rider, John The Revelator and Six Sixty-Six, when he performed so many other fine numbers from the Catholics catalog, is a mystery to me. The Catholics was a great band and this CD proves it. It is still strongly recommended, but it could have been so much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great live album. 13 Feb 2013

When it comes to live albums normally I hesitate. I usually look at all the songs first and figure well I've heard most of these and talk myself out of the buy. Being a major fan of FB & the C's I took the plunge and bought the MP3 version. Usually it will take me a few listens before I warm up to any of Sir Charles's records and immediately after a few I become fanatical and then replay it a thousand times without listening to anything else in between. This time was different for me... it only took one spin through all the songs and I am HOOKED! There is a great variety from Pixies to Frank Black solo work to of course the Catholics and an excellent Son House cover. I started listening to the Catholics around 2008 and after listening to this album find my self wishing I would have discovered them much sooner so I could have went and watched them live. They put the catholic twist on several pixies songs making a few of them the best versions I have heard. What a great band! My current favorites : So Hard To Make Things Out, Nimrods Son, John The Revelator, and Bullet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware! Won't Play or Rip onto Computer -- Suspect Copy protected! Boycott, make a stand! 19 Jan 2014

I love Frank and was very excited to get this. Probably like many of you, I rip my CDs into my music library and play from there. I don't even have a traditional CD player anymore. The first one I ordered would not play (or even be recognized) on my Imac....thought it was defective...returned it (Amazon is great that way). The next one I got...same thing. Realized upon inspection of the disc... it does not bear the CD logo.

Technically speaking, these cannot even be called audio cds! I hate copy protection like this and so should you. I spend huge amounts of money on music every year and have legitimate copies of everything I listen to.

Yes, I could do the download the mp3 version--but that's an inferior bitrate. I want high quality playback. These titles should be boycotted...or it will only get worse! I thought the record companies and the artists learned their lesson a few years back!

I'd be curious to know if this plays on non-apple computers..
