At last, the DVD of the 1984 returning home to Athens concert by
Greeces best known international artiste. What a setting the theatre just below the Acroplolis,I was there not long ago and it's
just a perfect setting for such an historic homecoming,as she had not played in her home country for twenty years. She wears for the first part of the concert a long white flowing dress that looks very traditionally Greek in style which just adds to the occasion. The concert is a
really wonderful evening, Nana singing many of her best known songs
with many also by Greeces best known composers. Her band is really
excellent as well with many close ups on any solo playing. The beautiful arrangement of Amazing Grace, the clarity of voice on Ave Maria, White Rose Of Athens in three different languages seems even more powerful in such a setting, alsa a medley that includes Zorbas Dance. For any who enjoy Nana this is a wonderful
DVD to enjoy again and again. The bonus items recorded in 2002
for German television see her singing in many Greek locations
including Athens of course, but also Corfu etc.
One thing to watch, this is not filmed in wide sceen but in standard format.so beware as if you don't change it everyone looks a bit on the short and stubby size. Sound is excellent throughout.I bought the double CD of this concert last year in Greece, but to visually see it in such a setting on one very special night is just not to be missed as it,s said that Nana's current tour is her last before she retires from touring, shame,
as live she is one of the truly great live artistes in the world.
Athens and Nana Mouskouri the perfect concert and the right setting, five stars all the way.

I have just received the DVD for Christmas, and am extremely pleased with it.
I would just like to clarify actually what the item is, as the Amazon information and review information make it very unclear !

The item is one DVD (region 2, which covers Europe) in a standard DVD-size box. The DVD contains the actual 1984 concert of 21 items (which lasts 88 minutes) and a bonus of 7 titles shot on location in and around Athens in 2002 (which last a total of 22 minutes). So the whole DVD lasts 110 minutes.

The titles on the DVD are:

CONCERT:
1. Introduction
Avgi Karazi
Sinefiasmeni Kiriaki
2. Fidaki
3. Tora Pou Pas Stin Xenitia
4. Pame Mia Volta Sto Fengaru
5. To Fengari Ine Kokkino
6. Vale Ton Ilio Synoro
7. Medley
Nafti Yero-Nafti
To Kiparissaki
Lavrion
Erini
8. Den Itan Nissi
9. Aspri Mera
10. Hartino To Fengaraki
11. Mia Fora Ki Enan Kairo
12. Odos Oniron
13. Medley
White Rose of Athens
Ximeroni
Zorba Le Grec
14. Kathe Trello Pedi
15. Amazing Grace
16. Enas Mithos
17. Je Chante Avec Toi Liberte
18. Kapou Iparhi Agapi Mou
19. Milisse Mou
20. Mera Mayou
21. Ave Maria

BONUS:
1. Ode to Joy / Come and Sing
2. La Paloma
3. Plaisir d'Amour
4. Ave Maria
5. Sieben Schwarze Rosen
6. Exi Martiou
7. Ximeroni

Hope this helps everybody.

I have enjoyed Nana Mouskouri's plaintive melodies and rhythmic songs for many years, and her performance on this DVD is well up to the standard I've come to expect.

If you buy only for the music, then have no doubts that this is a disc worth adding to your collection.

However, you should be aware that the quality of the video is poor. Photography (i.e. video) and production appears to have been by a French TV company, and the French TV standard is SECAM, while most of the rest of Europe, including the UK, uses the PAL system. This DVD is in PAL format, so it's entirely possible that the grainy video may in part be due to a transfer between colour systems. It may well have been transferred from standard definition VHS or Betamax tape (A transfer from the professional UMatic I'd expect better of). Frankly, it's no better than the images I used to get off my old 8mm analogue camcorder, back in the last century. Anyone expecting modern DVD/Blu-ray quality will be disappointed, though the picture is watchable, provided that, as one would expect, the sound was the more important element.

Audio options include Stereo, Dolby 5.1 and DTS, so can't be faulted: suitable for just about any type of player setup.

I was lucky enough to be at Nana Mouskouri's debut London concert at the Royal Albert Hall way back in the late 1960s. That was a magical evening, but even that memory is overshadowed by this concert, her return to Greece in 1984.
The performance that night was a triumph; from the moment she swept onto the stage to ear-shattering applause, to the last notes of her final song, when the audience erupted into a storm of clapping and cheering.
The DVD (and CD) captures (nearly all) the concert - Leonard Cohen's 'The Guests' was an emotional triumph not included here - and I recommend both to anyone - Nana
Mouskouri at her absolute best!! PERFECTION!!!
