I can't agree with the previous reveiwer who's seen Tha Damned once in 2011. The School Bullies recording is one of the band's classics and the Lyceum one recalls another excellent live set from a time when you went to see The Damned like going round your mates squat for a laugh.

If you want note perfect, go and see David Bowie

I dont know why this cd gets such bad reviews although it does have to be looked upon as a bootleg.disc one has a pretty shabby show from the black album tour 81 but disc two has the famous live at Newcastle show from 82 which was just as important as any other damned album back in the day. what can i say other than sensibles a ......

The Damned are one of the best bands ever. I had the chance to see them live once at Rebellion 2011 and it was a great experience. The band is an amazing live outfit. They can play their songs almost note perfect. However, this album would give people who haven't been lucky enough to experience the band's amazing live power the wrong impression. Dave Vania seems to slur the songs over a cacophony of loud, distorted and un-organized music. Before hearing this album, I thought Stiff Little Finger's "Live and Loud!!" album was the worst live album I owned, but after hearing this, this now takes the prize. It comes with two discs. A lot of the songs that appear on disc one appear on disc two as well, so if you're listening to both in one sitting you're going to hear some of the same songs again. Overall, I think disc one is the better of the two as far as music goes. As far as vocals go, Dave Vania seems so out of key on each song, it hardly seems to matter. Disc one seems like a genuine recording. Disc two sounds like a bootleg and a bad one at that. You have to be a huge fan to sit through a terrible recording of an already bad performance. Luckily, I am a huge fan. On disc two, the album switches between two different gigs. After "Love Song" it switches to another gig for "Smash it Up (Part I)" and the rest of the disc and does a real awkward transition to do so. If you want a good live Damned album, literally any other live album would be better, but I don't think the live albums are like seeing the real thing, so if actually going to see them isn't an option, settle for something better than this.

Great live compilation 27 Feb. 2008
By Chris - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Basically a compilation of three live albums: Ballroom Blitz - Live at the Lyceum (CD1), Live at Newcastle (CD2. 1-10), & School Bullies (CD2, 11-18). Punk music is all about the attitude and energy, and a live album is therefore the only real way to listen to these tracks. This album doesn't disappoint in that regard: CD 2 includes the concert staple "Sensible's a wanker" chant from the audience along with some other gems. Some sections aren't a continuous recording (the 10 track Live at Newcastle CD was trimmed from a longer version of the same album) but fades are used to make this not too noticeable. Great CD, you're getting 3 albums so you can't go wrong.
