This CD contains some of the highlights of an acoustic gig recorded at the Jam House in Birmingham, February 2006.
It's a fantastic album, up there with Simon and Oscar's previous acoustic offering 'live on the riverboat'. Unlike that album, however, this features the full band line up plus numerous guest spots. John McCusker and Michael McGoldrick (both past winners of the BBC folk musician of the year awards) play fiddle and pipes respectively, while Carleen Anderson adds some fantastic vocals on several of the tracks, most notably on 'beautiful thing' and 'god's world' both of which sound immense.
Most of these songs are rarely played live, and its fantastic to hear songs like 'here in my heart' from 1997's bsides album. The only song from Moseley Shoals is 'fleeting mind'. This is a great way to finish, the guitar and pipes on this are outstanding. Definitely one of OCS's most underplayed songs, and this certainly beats the studio version for me. Another highlight is 'won't get grazed', a track I never thought I'd hear live.
The 4 new songs are all strong and definitely growers. Matilda's England is the most folky OCS have ever been, while Still Trying is a great little bluesy track.
All in all a great album, an excellent way to kick things off on Moseley Shoals Records.
