My introduction to Celtus was through their appearance at last year's Fleadh in London, some time after which I purchased Moonchild, then Portrait, the first of which has rarely been off the CD player. The live album adds another dimension to the Celtus experience, taking familiar studio recordings and presenting them in an intimate way which shows the band at its best. Most of the tracks are remarkably faithful to their studio counterparts, with others ('We two are one' being a prime example) sounding both familiar yet different through their arrangement. It sounds as though many of the recordings were made in relatively small venues, which increases the feeling of intimacy (there's that word again) infusing the recordings. I'm seeing Celtus live in Southampton on March the 8th - if their show then is half as good as this collection, then it should be a rare treat.
